GIP!

annathepiper: (Space Cowboy)

I realized tonight, seeing both userinfomamishka and userinfoalg enthuse over tonight’s episode of Castle, that I have a sad, sad lack of Castle-related icons in my life!

However, thanks to comminfocastleicons, I was quickly able to rectify this problem. Props to users userinfotellmewhyxx and userinfotxduck, whose icons I scarfed and have added to the userpics pages of both my LJ and Dreamwidth accounts! Check ‘em out:

I need to find one of Castle actually writing as well, but this assortment should do me nicely for now. <3

annathepiper: (Alan and Sean Ordinary Day)

It occurred to me that if I was going to go around calling my LJ “Ordinary Day”, I should damn well have a default icon that reflects that. So for the benefit of those of you looking at this on my various LJ-flavored sites, check out the Alan and Sean loverliness. That shot is of course from the video for the song. The icon is by userinfoturple_purtle, who was the provider of just about all of the GBS icons I use.

And if you’re looking at this on annathepiper.org, here!

annathepiper: (Great Amurkian Novel 2)

If you happen to be like me and am crossposting these days over to LJ and LJ-related sites off of Wordpress, you might want to give a look to the shiny new version of the JournalPress plugin. It just upgraded to version 0.3 and includes, finally, support for letting you choose what userpic you want when the post shows up on LJ!

This gives me a Happy, since it takes a few extra steps out of my crossposting efforts. And lets me specifically do something like oh, say, choose to show those of you who’re looking at this post on LJ or Dreamwidth the shiny new icon that userinfospazzkat made me! It’s a new version of Great Amurkian Novel, featuring Scuzzbopper, who is arguably my personal muse. I <3 Scuzzie so.

But for those who’re looking at this post via Wordpress, here’s the icon itself, behind the fold!

annathepiper: (Wide Eyed and Waiting)
Y'all may notice I have a new icon on this post. That's because [livejournal.com profile] starfallz reminded me that even though my lads of Newfoundland do tend to dominate my musical attention, some lads over in Norway have had it a while longer. This here is an icon by [livejournal.com profile] sayuri_x. I've got another I've scarfed from her as well, from this post over here on [livejournal.com profile] aha. If you like this icon, go check out the others and compliment her work!

Meanwhile, for the sake of not making this a total GIP, this is your official announcement to Get Your Anna While Supplies Last. I go in for surgery at Stupid-o'Clock tomorrow morning. The plan is much like last time: nothing to eat or drink after midnight, check in at the hospital at 5:30am, surgery at 7am. They will keep me 1-3 days depending on how I do. Friday evening for release is a possibility but it may be more like Saturday, given that this is a more complex surgery than the mastectomy was. So there'll be more repair work that the Nanomechnical Anna will have to do.

[livejournal.com profile] solarbird will of course be coming with me, as will my computer. I'll check in online when I'm awake and able.

In the meantime, I invite you all to amuse yourselves with the following poll!

[Poll #1262098]

Leave other suggestions in the comments!
annathepiper: (Bouzouki Fandom)
So I want to do me a series of GBS fandom icons to go with my "my fandom plays bouzouki" one. I need a bunch more similar phrases! I have a few already:

- My fandom's boat is painted green
- My fandom's got Bobby on the squeezebox
- My fandom is goin' up tonight
- My fandom beats the drum
- My fandom does vertical movement
- My fandom bewares of the Old Black Rum

I just went over to [livejournal.com profile] turple_purtle's journal and snagged a bunch of her lovely GBS bases and may well be using them to make several of these icons, with duly appointed credit. But anybody got icon bases they want to donate to the cause, or additional phrases for the list, sing out!
annathepiper: (Winter)
So after a brief lull this afternoon, the snow kicked in again. We're back to heavy, large flakes coming down like nobody's business out there. And while Pagliacci's is indeed delivering, I just got called by their dispatcher saying that our delivery will in fact be late because of the snow! I assured them that that is quite all right, and that we have a hefty tip waiting for whoever's coming up the hill. Our pizza bill is $34 and change tonight, but fuck it, they get $40. Because wow, I appreciate not having to go out in this. :)

Also, in honor of the Decembery weather, I've broken my old Winter icon back out again, as well as Snowy Yahoo Anna for my previous post. I think I'll be able to reinstate Christmas Yahoo Anna, too, now that I have icon slots again!
annathepiper: (Smooooooooth)
The temptation was too great to resist. I have now purchased extra icon slots and have uploaded all the GBS pretties by [livejournal.com profile] turple_purtle, as well as some others I had been forced to ditch in previous rounds of icon rearranging. Most importantly, however, I can now add the Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea icon made for me by my beloved [livejournal.com profile] solarbird. About which the following conversation just took place on the MurkMUSH:

The Mystery of Chip Morton... )

There will be more Voyage icons, people ("Giant Whale + Atomic Bomb = OTP" does indeed have a nice ring to it). Consider yourselves warned.
annathepiper: (Harry Dresden)
First of all to [livejournal.com profile] gamera_spinning: I got the Amazon package. Thank you very much for sending some Harry Dresden into my mailbox. That was very, very kind of you.

Secondly, as a general PSA to the GBS fans on my Friends list who are not already listening on [livejournal.com profile] greatbigsea: [livejournal.com profile] turple_purtle whipped up a big shiny batch of icons featuring our B'ys, all yoinked off the concert footage and the videos from Courage & Patience & Grit. You can go ogle the Newfoundlander goodness here! As you might guess, I yoinked quite a few of them. And now I am faced with the delightful dilemma of whether to drop the axe on several of my current less-used icons, or to just say ctrl-alt-fuckit and pony up for the extra icon slots. Regardless, those icons brought a much-needed smile to my face. I thanked [livejournal.com profile] turple_purtle over on the icon post, but I'll say it here, too.

Thirdly, although I've already said it to their faces, I must express some appreciation for my chiropractor and the staffers at her clinic. They sent me flowers; I came home last night to find them.

Fourth, a thank you to [livejournal.com profile] aerialscribe not only for recommending The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle, but also being very patient with me about getting my story edited.

And last but not least, continued thanks to all of you who have been following my BFFN posts. Even if you're not commenting, it helps me just to know you guys are out there thinking of me. It's very much appreciated. Thanks to each and every one of you. <3

Now I'd better go work on that story!
annathepiper: (Something Beautiful)
Okay, I might have me some breast cancer, but all things considered, I'd much rather have that than the BRAIN EATING AMOEBA. I mean, damn. I've SEEN those episodes of Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea.

Here are some other things I am grateful for, in the meantime:

  • [livejournal.com profile] jessicac came over last night, armed with a piece of apple pie and an entire peach pie, and some Haagen-Dazs cinnamon dulce de leche ice cream. That ice cream is, I'm here to tell you, ecstasy in a spoon. Also, Jessica's little girl is unbelievably cute with [livejournal.com profile] solarbird's red house slippers jammed onto her hands, and crawl-clomping all over our kitchen floor, babbling nonstop in fluent Baby all the while. I'm just sayin'.

  • For round two of Snacks and Cute Babies Therapy, [livejournal.com profile] kathrynt came over today with her cute child and a box full of cupcakes. Lillian is not quite as fluent in Baby as Moira, but she's got that speed-crawl down now. She also clued in very quickly to the Find Anna's Face Behind Her Hand Game, and she was absolutely fascinated by each and every object on our coffee table. Most of which were not baby-safe in the slightest. Except maybe the wooden coaster. We let her have that.

  • Tomorrow there will be Russell Crowe and Christian Bale double-barrel-shotgun goodness in 3:10 to Yuma. This movie could suck like a great big sucking thing (not that I think it will, 'cause Russell's generally pretty good about not being in movies that suck), and I'd still enjoy watching these two boys for two hours.

  • Tomorrow there will also be a Murkworks Kitten-Finding Expedition. Given the current circumstances, [livejournal.com profile] spazzkat has bumped up the priority of getting some kittens into this household. We're in definite pet shortage around here, and we've got a multi-kitten situation at hand, definitely. If we're lucky, we should have cute kitten pictures to share with the world in the next 24-48 hours.

  • Sunday, hopefully, there will be a meeting of some cross-section of our household and [livejournal.com profile] technoshaman's to make music. There are plans to play around with the recently released songbook of Heather Alexander songs and to indulge in the snacks kindly provided by the aforementioned Jessica and Kathryn.

And I made me a new version of my "Something Beautiful" icon tonight, partly because Alan Doyle is always good for the easing of my heart, and partly because "Something Beautiful" is a song that's really called for right now.
annathepiper: (Default)
... was not read Deathly Hallows, on account of I still ain't read books 4, 5, and 6 yet. Yeah yeah yeah, I know I've kept saying I'd read 'em, just haven't been motivated to yet. I'll get to them eventually, I'm sure. I'll just have to maintain my status as a (partial) Harry Potter Heathen a while longer.

What I did do today, Part I, was the Great Cleaning Up of the Upstairs Bathroom, oh joy oh glee. Not nearly as enjoyable, I know, as reading about boy wizards--but hey, it needed to be done. And it was made more fun by watching a couple of old episodes of third-season Remington Steele at the same time. Part II involved going with [livejournal.com profile] solarbird to Best Buy to purchase a new flat-screen monitor for Kimo, our office computer, since its ancient humongous CRT monitor was dying. It's amazing how different it looks in there now without a huge monitor dominating the desk. And, Part III: laundry, writing, and watching of old first-season X-Files since I've been in a mood for that. Gods, I had forgotten the yumminess of young David Duchovny's hair. *^_^*

And oh yes, I made me a new Yahoo avatar icon, since I was tired of looking at my last one. This one's a bit more colorful, and has a closer match to the type of hat I like to wear even if I think it sits funny on my avatar's head!

One last thing: as y'all know, I've enjoyed the J.D. Robb "In Death" series for quite some time. Were I to try to branch out into other Nora Roberts novels, which do y'all think I might like? I am interested on account of seeing her semi-regularly posting over on [livejournal.com profile] smartbitches in their comment threads, and displaying a generally nifty level of public clueage, and I am therefore interested in reading more of her work.

Icons!

May. 17th, 2007 08:14 pm
annathepiper: (Blue Hawaii Grin)
I blame this on a conversation with [livejournal.com profile] spazzkat and [livejournal.com profile] risu on the MurkMUSH, and the fact that the world just needs more Nethack icons. And also, because Nethack and lolcats are two great tastes that go great together.

Nethack Lolcat Fudz Nethack Lolcat Eated It

And also, because [livejournal.com profile] cheesygirl continues to make wonderful Doctor Who icons, and because Ten and cats also go quite well together:

Ten and KITTY! Be Ur Companun?

The Nethack icons are mine. Feel free to swipe 'em, credit me on your userpics pages if you take 'em. The Doctor icons are [livejournal.com profile] cheesygirl's; I pulled them from here. Please to follow her wishes for icon swiping!
annathepiper: (Ten and TARDIS)
Now that I have a proper Doctor icon (two, in fact), I can provide appropriate visual aids to any Doctor-related squee that might happen to take place around here. Yay! Icons snurched and duly credited on my userpics page to [livejournal.com profile] cheesygirl, who posted them (along with a lot of others) over here. They're all icons from the first ep of the new round, "Smith and Jones".

On a related note, for those of you who haven't actually seen these yet, I must share two delightful pieces of Doctor fanart by mimi-na on deviantart.com:

Doctor's Girls

omg DOCTORZ

These make me Happy. Particularly Little Fourth Doctor all tangled up in his scarf, though Six's coat all colorful and Nine's huge gun are both very cool.

Last but not least, some comments on the actual eps we've watched lately at the Murk!

Spoilers up through The Shakespeare Code... )

Very much looking forward to getting caught up on the newer eps that have aired!
annathepiper: (Bond James Bond)
Tonight I went trolling around looking for Casino Royale icons. There are some excellent ones here, here, here, here, here, and here. It amuses me greatly that those skimpy swimtrunks are a favored icon topic. ;)

This one I've scarfed is courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] acopyofacopy!
annathepiper: (Archaeologist)
So last night, thanks to the birthday of Mr. Ford, I felt a great, grand, passionate need to screencap the hell out of Raiders of the Lost Ark and bolster Harry's presence in my icon set. Between this and the help of some very pretty color textures by [livejournal.com profile] colorfilter, I have accomplished tonight's icon. (And for extra giggles and grins, it could easily be mistaken for a Paul Nighman icon, at least to anybody familiar with my and [livejournal.com profile] mamishka's RP days from Star Wars MUSH!)

I also have the following ten bases, which I will be doing more fun things to as soon as I figure out what I want them all to look like. If you'd like to play with the bases yourself, have at--just please do not hotlink to the images. Copy them to your own server!

Marion Blitzed Marion Excuse me Marion Pensive Marion Smug
Indy Verandah Indy OMG Indy Survey Indy Stoic
How About Here Dont Look Marion

So here I am bored at work on a Friday with very little to do, and it occurs to me--hey, talking about fandoms of mine that are not yet adequately represented in my icons, what about Elvis?! My original gentleman du fangirly squee?

Determined to correct this problem, I promptly clicked on my "elvis presley" interest link, found [livejournal.com profile] elvisgraphics, and a link to this post by [livejournal.com profile] __wastedicons. And my little heart went pitter-pat, and I promptly seized these pretties in addition to the one I'm using on this post:

Damn, now I feel like firing up my Elvis Favorites playlist on the iPod! :D
annathepiper: (Sleepy)
Started off the new work week by going through Employee Orientation at the Times. Most of it was expected HR-flavored kinds of stuff, but the bits about the history of the newspaper were actually pretty cool. I didn't know that it had been around for 110 years, or the bits about who founded it or various and sundry interesting milestones in its existence. I didn't know that it used to be called the Seattle Daily Times, either--that it changed names in the 60's. (I note this out of general interest because if I ever write that book I want to set in Seattle in the 50's, that will be a very good piece of data to know.)

Also discovered where the cafeteria was and that they have some more or less okay food there. But I'll probably be going a little farther on a daily basis to either Mokas or Subway, I think. They'll have better sandwiches and it's a bit farther of a walk as well.

And I did some actual work for the hours after Orientation was over, so all in all a pretty packed day. The major hurdle getting through it all was that I slept really badly last night, and it didn't help that I got awakened around 5am by a chirping bird outside the (open) window. Plus I had to get up even earlier to get to work on time for the orientation. I've actually been short on sleep for the last few days, thanks to general I Have a New Job spazziness and stress. I mean, I'm excited about the new job and all, I just think this sort of excitement on the system can be stressful in its own way. 'Specially if you have to adjust your schedule to get up earlier and you haven't gotten around to adjusting to going to bed earlier too. Zzzzzzzzzz.

My general state of zonktitude called for another Russell icon, too.

It occurred to me today: "Why in the WORLD do I not have any Eddie Izzard icons?"

Determined to assuage this need, I promptly clicked on the "eddie izzard" link in my Interests lists, and found an entire community dedicated to just this very purpose: [livejournal.com profile] eddicons! Thanks to the kind folks in that community, I have now scarfed the following lovelies for my userpics page:

By [livejournal.com profile] mysticmirth, from Dress to Kill and Definite Article:

By [livejournal.com profile] moony_graphics, from Glorious:

By [livejournal.com profile] indehed, from Definite Article:

And by [livejournal.com profile] megathy27, both from Dress to Kill:

Due credit has been noted on all these icons on my userpics page. And if you don't know who Eddie Izzard is, for gods' sake, go here and indulge in the Funny!
annathepiper: (Breathless)
As previously threatened (aheh), I have now added two more Russell-themed icons to my lineup, "Breathless" and "Sonata".

"Breathless" is from a screencap done by [livejournal.com profile] boxer_ferret (who I have credited on my pics page!) of a recent performance Russell did, and the caption on it is from one of the song titles from My Hand, My Heart. This one I expect to use for musical Russell/TOFOG type posts.

"Sonata" is from a scan of one of the stills from the album art from the Master and Commander soundtrack--Captain Jack Aubrey, armed with violin. Expect to see this one when I start talking about classical music. 'Specially when I get around to finding me some Boccherini and Corelli.
annathepiper: (Smile On My Face)
First and foremost, folks, look at the pretty icon that [livejournal.com profile] silme711 made for me! I'd been wanting a Smiling Alan icon with the caption "smile on my face" for a while now--but I'd been having a bit of a problem finding the absolute perfect Alan picture for it. But [livejournal.com profile] silme711 beat me to the punch, remembering that such a picture existed in the gallery for My Hand, My Heart. And I pretty much figured that a snippet of "Ordinary Day" + Smiling Alan is pretty much THE perfect icon for me. Plus, this is Alan With Guitar, which is surpassed in excellence only by Alan With Bouzouki. Many many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] silme711!

Meanwhile, [livejournal.com profile] spazzkat is home! [livejournal.com profile] solarbird picked him up from the airport yesterday evening, and it was good to have him back when I got home. :) We fully expect that Polly will be demanding he make up what he owes on the Kitty Head Tax for the next week or so.

Dara has mostly licked the Plague and is up and running again, though she still periodically has some coughs going on. Stupid plague.

And last but not least, for you Browncoats--I bring, from [livejournal.com profile] whedonesque, IGN interviews Nathan Fillion: "Great in-depth piece covering his acting process on Slither, his affection for Malcolm Reynolds, and of course, his effort to win the role of Wonder Woman." Inspired by the latter, one poster on that thread helpfully provided this visual aid for how the role might work for Mr. Fillion. Bwahahaha!

[livejournal.com profile] 711icons strikes again! Go! Look! Ogle! Compliment!

[livejournal.com profile] fleurdelista, I'm lookin' at YOU. ;) [livejournal.com profile] raise_a_jar, you really need to look at that post, too. There's some Shantyman goodness there you'll want to see!
