The temptation was too great to resist. I have now purchased extra icon slots and have uploaded all the GBS pretties by turple_purtle, as well as some others I had been forced to ditch in previous rounds of icon rearranging. Most importantly, however, I can now add the Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea icon made for me by my beloved solarbird. About which the following conversation just took place on the MurkMUSH:

Oh, but ve haff der Yellow Submarine back home in Kanada -- it liffs at Nanoose Bay, vere ve use der Submarine as target for practice.

And I've seen the darned thing, too, chuffling about in the centre of the Salish Sea, south of Texada Island.

Nahh, I never did Navy. My brothers-in-law did: one was Merchant Navy, the other ran the Navy fire service at Bremerton (and I've got the big warm jacket to show for it).

Oh, I don't have a military bone in my body, I just love the show for childhood nostalgia value, for it being the one of the very first skiffy shows I ever watched, and because I thought Captain Crane was hot and still kind of do. (David Hedison, I note, is in a bunch of interview snippets on the DVD extras. He's aged quite well!) <3

Chief Sharkey, now he was the one who was the Trickster figure in those stories. I thought Captain Crane was cute enough, but Chief Sharkey was the one with the most expressive face.

Gosh, can hear that sonar pinging in my head as I write this. "Attention all hands, rig for collision!"

*snicker* Yeah, I'll give Sharkey points for expressiveness. I just watched the episode where Crane and Nelson are trying to kill each other on the deserted sub, and Sharkey's caught in the middle. Surprisingly good story for him, and the actor does quite a nice job showing distress about what the HELL his superior officers are up to.
