What I did for Potterdammerung Day
Jul. 21st, 2007 10:10 pm... was not read Deathly Hallows, on account of I still ain't read books 4, 5, and 6 yet. Yeah yeah yeah, I know I've kept saying I'd read 'em, just haven't been motivated to yet. I'll get to them eventually, I'm sure. I'll just have to maintain my status as a (partial) Harry Potter Heathen a while longer.
What I did do today, Part I, was the Great Cleaning Up of the Upstairs Bathroom, oh joy oh glee. Not nearly as enjoyable, I know, as reading about boy wizards--but hey, it needed to be done. And it was made more fun by watching a couple of old episodes of third-season Remington Steele at the same time. Part II involved going with
solarbird to Best Buy to purchase a new flat-screen monitor for Kimo, our office computer, since its ancient humongous CRT monitor was dying. It's amazing how different it looks in there now without a huge monitor dominating the desk. And, Part III: laundry, writing, and watching of old first-season X-Files since I've been in a mood for that. Gods, I had forgotten the yumminess of young David Duchovny's hair. *^_^*
And oh yes, I made me a new Yahoo avatar icon, since I was tired of looking at my last one. This one's a bit more colorful, and has a closer match to the type of hat I like to wear even if I think it sits funny on my avatar's head!
One last thing: as y'all know, I've enjoyed the J.D. Robb "In Death" series for quite some time. Were I to try to branch out into other Nora Roberts novels, which do y'all think I might like? I am interested on account of seeing her semi-regularly posting over on
smartbitches in their comment threads, and displaying a generally nifty level of public clueage, and I am therefore interested in reading more of her work.
Miles since the 15th: 22.2
Miles out of Hobbiton: 2200.3
Miles out of Isengard: 407.3
Miles to Minas Tirith: 378.7

Date: 2007-07-22 03:17 pm (UTC)For Nora's best writing, though, you'll probably want to go to the Gallaghers trilogy - Jewels of the Sun, Tears of the Moon, and Heart of the Sea - great romantic fantasy, with a gorgeous set in Ireland. Nora definitely has favorite character and plot archetypes, and there are several trilogies that cover sort of the same ground; this is the trilogy that, in my opinion, does it best. If you're looking for a standalone romantic suspense, her best, by far (in my view), is Northern Lights.

Date: 2007-07-31 08:29 pm (UTC)As for Nora books...I like the Three Sister's trilogy (witches and such)and the Gallagher's trilogy (Irish lore and mythology). Stand alones would be "Blue Smoke", "Norhtern Lights", "Birthright"...and lots more, but those oare the ones that pop to mind.

Date: 2007-08-02 07:09 pm (UTC)I'm trying what appears to be one of her latest: Angels Fall. I'm about 100 pages in, and it's pretty good so far.
