annathepiper: (Aubrey Orly?)

I don’t often post to this site (which would be annathepiper.org for those of you reading this on LJ and Dreamwidth) anymore, but wanted to stick a post up to make a note that I had to do some overhauling of how my RP logs archive works. That, for those of you who haven’t visited this site in a while, is this page over here. Updates to WordPress as well as the operating system on our server required me to make sure that the PHP I’ve been using to organize my logs database was working correctly.

Which I’ve done. But since I’ve also been in a mind to revisit the logs archive in general, thanks to getting caught up on the current EQ storyline and chatting with Dara and our friend James (a.k.a. Flashfire from our days on Two Moons), I found a few logs that had broken links. Those have now been fixed. I also added one new log from 2004, Meeting Akira, in which I was playing Ynderra of Lostholt meeting Akira of the Cat Elves.

The other logs I tweaked, as well as that log, can be seen as recent updates on my New Logs page.

I’ve still got a pretty sizable backlog of RP logs I never posted from assorted MUSHes. I may amuse myself with posting more.

Got to my desk at the day job this morning to discover that my reaction post yesterday to recent Elfquest issues got linked to on Elfquest.com! And gosh, there are a lot of you coming in to check out what I had to say. Hi there, fellow fans!

If you’re wondering who the heck I am and what my background in Elfquest might be, I’ve got a long history of being in active EQ fandom. I was one of the administrators (a.k.a. “wizards”) of Two Moons MUSH, an online, real-time, Elfquest-themed RPG. On Two Moons, my primary character was Rillwhisper, chieftess of the Willowholt, and I also have a history of having played both Mender and Rayek there. I’ve still got a very large archive of roleplay logs from the days of Two Moons, and you can find them over on my other site, annathepiper.org, here. Look for the section on this page involving “Two Moons MUSH Logs”, since they’re all broken down by various characters I played and various tribes I participated in.

As a writer, I’ve also frequently posted about how Elfquest has been a huge formative influence on me. If you look at my homepage or the pages for Faerie Blood and Bone Walker, you may well be able to see EQ influences there. This is because EQ has been a huge influence on my concepts of what elves should look like. And when I commissioned the covers for those books from artist Kiri Moth, particularly the cover for Faerie Blood, I told her all about that. In particular, for the Faerie Blood cover, I told her, “Here is a picture of Leetah from Elfquest. Here is a picture of Rayek from Elfquest. I want you to make my character Kendis look like the child these two characters never actually had.”

Please feel free to say hi and tell me about your own history with Elfquest! And I hope you’ll stick around and check out my books!

annathepiper: Icon of Strongbow from Elfquest (Strongbow)

There’s a fun meme going around Twitter today with the hash tag #10yearsago. For the benefit of those of you who don’t follow me on Twitter or Facebook, here are my contributions! It’s fun to write these down, especially given that this year was before I was regularly doing anything like blogging.

Y’all will notice there’s a whole lot of fandom and geekery here. This would be because, well, I was indulging in a lot of fandom and geekery that year! Which has certainly not changed at all in the ten years since.

  • #10yearsago Mylee Ejercito drew me a Shenner picture! http://www.annathepiper.org/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/shenner3.jpg
  • #10yearsago I was still totally fangirling on Strongbow from Elfquest, enough that I had a web page dedicated to him!
  • #10yearsago X-Files was starting to wear out its welcome at the Murk, but ZOMG Season 3 of Buffy. Big, big fun. Mayor FTW. <3
  • #10yearsago Had big fun seeing The Matrix, Sixth Sense, Toy Story 2, and The Mummy, and OK fine ogled Ewan MacGregor in Phantom Menance. ;)
  • HA I was wrong. My Presario laptop was NOT running XP. It was running Windows 98 and I upgraded to SE that year. #10yearsago
  • #10yearsago Phantom Menace came out! Mimi and I were in line for a late show with a kid with blue hair. We played Egyptian Rat Screw!
  • #10yearsago We didn’t go to Worldcon in Australia but DID go to NASFiC in Anaheim and had a 3-day marathon Disneyland run! Indy ride FTW!
  • #10yearsago I’d quit PernMUSH, BUT! I was still writing in Pern fandom offline in Telgar Weyr, as brownrider Tember and bronzerider J’marr.
  • #10yearsago I was still using a Compaq Presario as my laptop, and it was running XP, and I was FINE with that. Poor deluded 1999 me! ;)
  • #10yearsago Wayfound was born at the Willowholt on Two Moons MUSH, and I destroyed the Willowholt in floods at the end of the year.
  • #10yearsago Tance Vokrim was my surviving character on CrystalMUSH, and he got his beloved Kesya back halfway through that year.
  • #10yearsago I was playing Shenner and Han Solo on Star Wars MUSH and making people’s jaws drop that a girl was playing Solo.
  • #10yearsago in addition to not knowing Great Big Sea yet, my dad was still alive, I worked at Attachmate, and I’d just joined AetherMUSH!
  • In 1999 I was still living at MurkSouth and had not yet discovered either Russell Crowe or Great Big Sea. Had no idea what I was missing!

Here are some Wayfound logs as well, since as I mentioned, the Wolfbringer’s daughter is just refusing to leave me alone. Bear with me, folks, I’m going to be posting logs for a while, I think!

“Tefin Meets the Captain” has Wayfound introducing Vardeus to Tefin, a fascinating Go-Back she’s met in the nearby woods; in “Keeping Watch and Making Plans”, Tefin finds Wayfound on watch over the Vraeyan camp by night, and the two elves share something of their childhoods with each other and make plans to head to Lostholt; “Of Babies and Gold” is a log fragment in which Wayfound and Tefin hang out with the human youth Maerro and the baby Jorrico, and learn a little about human babies and Maerro’s own history.

Because I’m totally on a nostalgia trip for the Seafarers, and because Wayfound and Arnos still aren’t leaving me alone, I’m on a major log-posting kick today. All of these are logs out of my long-unposted backlog. Hope those of y’all who were in on the Seafarer RP with me will enjoy! userinfodamara, userinfostickmaker, userinfossha, userinfoanimenathan, and most especially userinfosyn, these are for you! (Any other former Seafarers actually reading this, sing out, crew! I miss you!)

“Council by the Campfire” shows Vardeus and Kephissa learning quite a few things from the humans and elves helping them, while making plans for finding the rest of the crew; “A Joyous Reunion” is the log of Vardeus and his party finally finding the rest of the crew; Vardeus shares with Coralfire the news of his betrothal to Tiana in “The Captain’s Delight”; in “Coralfire’s Dilemma”, Coralfire shocks Vardeus by seeking out his advice on what to do about her love life.

Here’s a log that takes place shortly after the destruction of the Willowholt, when Rillwhisper, her lifemates, and their young cub Wayfound, along with a few other tribesmates, have been taken in at Lostholt. And Wayfound, who is growing up fast, has to go and ask her “Fur-Father’s Advice”–because there are certain matters at which Trollkiller’s expertise is absolutely unparalleled!

This is mostly for the amusement of my fellow veterans of Two Moons MUSH! Since I went and merged my archive of TM logs with the rest of my roleplay logs, I’ve been absorbed in re-reading a lot of the best of the lot–especially the ones involving Wayfound and the Seafarers. So I got into the mood tonight to pull out a few of the ones I never posted and add them to the archive. I may do one of these a day for a while and see if I can get more of them caught up.

Tonight’s log is “Calm and Storm”, a quiet little scene between Wayfound and her soon-to-be Go-Back lovemate Tefin, who’s introducing her to a Vraeyan version of chess.

This is for all you folks on my Friends list who have any current stake in the future of Two Moons MUSH--and heck, any of you former TMers who have fallen out of playing on the game but who might have any chance whatsoever of playing on it again. If you know folks who are TMers who aren't on my Friends list, also, please feel free to pass the link to this post around. I am interested in getting as much input on this issue as possible, for the sake of bringing it around to the rest of the Staff. Because here's the thing, folks: Two Moons is a Dead Mush Walking. We have been for years. We're at a critical, all-time low in player population, with no sign of this changing any time soon. We have several fundamental things wrong with the game's infrastructure as it stands, which have continued over the years to make it very difficult to both attract new players and keep them.

Because of these things, the Staff has scheduled a MUSH-wide meeting to be held at 1pm Pacific time, 4pm Eastern on Sunday, May 23rd. We plan to, at this meeting, put forward the following question to the player population:

"What should be the future of Two Moons MUSH? Should we shut down? Should we restart? And if we should restart, to what degree should we do it?"

Please read over this post and let me know your thoughts, and vote in the poll at the end. If you are not an LJ user, you can't use the Poll mechanism, but you CAN leave a comment on the thread, so please feel free to do that if you need to. Bear with me--this is a VERY long post, with lots of LJ-cuts, but this is a huge issue that needs serious consideration if the game is to continue to survive. Thanks in advance for your patience, all. :)

Problems at Hand )

Option #1: Fix the Game With Current Environment )

Option #2: Complete and Total Restart )

Option #3: Same Timeline, Different Location )

Option #4: Same Timeline, Same Location, Later Timeframe )

Option #5: Same Timeline, Roll Back to Earlier Point and Restart )

Still with me? Good! Okay, folks, here's that poll I promised!

The Poll! )

Also, folks--if you have anything to say about any of these issues, do please feel free to leave comments on this thread, especially if you can't make the meeting. What gets said here WILL get relayed to the rest of the Staff. I will also enable Anonymous posting on my journal so that if you really feel the need, you can come and post your thoughts even if you don't have an LJ account, and even if you do and don't want to identify yourself. Talk to me, people. TM needs to hear from YOU!

I have a question for you. I and a few others are playing with the idea of doing some off-MUSH fanfic about what happens to the Vraeyans after they go off-camera from Two Moons MUSH--and I wanted to ask you whether we had ever determined whether Coralfire would go south to Vrae with them, or whether she would stay with the Olbar tribe? Since she had paired off with Torgan, I was unsure which way that ought to go. And since Twinkle, our new Human staffer, was curious as to whether any Vraeyan blood will have gotten into the Olbar gene pool, I wanted to see what your thoughts were on the matter. :)

+1. Went to the bank to deposit the back rent that [livejournal.com profile] risu is now finally caught up on. YAY!

+2. Bought my own copy of The Bourne Identity, since I was in the mood.

-3. [livejournal.com profile] lyricae gave me a scratch tape with the "Russell Crowe Show" episode of South Park on it. Tried to take a stab at watching it, got 11 minutes in, and had to give up. Hit the same part of my brain that cringes at Elvis jokes, unfortunately. ;) But thank you for trying, Cheryl, I do appreciate it! Love ya babe! :)

+4. Got on a bit of a cleaning binge. Vacuumed, emptied the dishwasher and then moved what was in the sink into the dishwasher; wiped down the stove and the counters; changed the kitty litter (and cleaned up a couple little accidents the kitty had in the studio room, sigh).

+5. Well, okay, I did this before I went to bed, but it was after midnight so that technically counted as yesterday: added a couple more GIR sounds to my frob. I have discovered that although I have "THE KNOWLEDGE! It FILLS ME! It is NEAT!" as the ActiveSync Begin sound, this apparently only gets triggered if I trigger the synchronization of files from the frob rather than the laptop. Foo. But at least the ActiveSync End sound, "GIR! Reporting for duty!" seems to trigger when I plug the frob in, which is what I want it to do. I shall also have to add, I think, "I gotta go, pig, I'll see ya later!" as the Connection De-established sound to go with "Whaaaaa hoo! HI THERE!" for Connection Established. ;)

+6: Had a big chat with [livejournal.com profile] ssha, who used to play Arnos with the Vraeyans on Two Moons, about Arnos and my character Wayfound becoming the weirdest pair of lifemates that Abode has ever seen. ;)

+7: Watched the Great Big DVD concert again, though I got a bit of a scare when the disc kept skipping in the middle of "Donkey Riding"! Fortunately, this quit after I gently wiped the disc down with a damp towel. Something just must have gotten smeared on it, or something.
annathepiper: (Default)
Are you still out there? Because if you are, I have a big ol' question for you about Wayfound and Tefin. :)
annathepiper: (Default)
For all the Two Moons folks past and present on my Friends list, can any of you tell me ANYTHING at all about any of the characters listed here? These are the characters in my database on TM's web page about which I don't know things like tribe or background or sex or whatever, and since I am a major information packrat I'd like to fill in anything else I can get about them.
annathepiper: (Default)
Wasn't this character, SongBird, one of yours? I seem to remember you playing her.
annathepiper: (Default)
If you used to play a member of the Willowholt tribe on Two Moons MUSH, I've just invited you onto [livejournal.com profile] willowholt. Feel free to ignore the invite message if you'd rather not, but in case you'd like to, come join us for low-key nostalgia, OOC chatting, and periodic extremely slow prose and/or RP. :)
annathepiper: (Default)
Kaer's player knows this already, but just so you know--I've actually got Ynderra down in the Cat Elf camp right now. She's coming around looking for her long-lost lifemate Kai, kind of hoping that since he's half-Cat Elf he might have gone down there in search of his mother Jeela, since last she saw him.

She won't find him, of course--he got idledested a long time ago. ;) BUT, in case you're open to the possibility of RP about this, check in and let me know!
annathepiper: (Default)
I have made a new [livejournal.com profile] willowholt community, for those of y'all on my Friends list who are either former Willowholters or who have Two Moons characters who had some sort of IC connection with or interest in the Willowholt. It's a closed community, but if you want on, you have but to ask me! Also, any of y'all who might know others who would be interested, you're welcome to point them at me for membership. It'd be rather cool if we could reassemble the entire tribe on LJ!
annathepiper: (Default)
Of which there are quite a few, actually... this is partially for the former Willowholters and partially for those of you who interacted with the Vraeyans during that plot in 2002. So this'd pretty much be [livejournal.com profile] agrimony, [livejournal.com profile] alinsa, [livejournal.com profile] animenathan, [livejournal.com profile] blargh, [livejournal.com profile] chrysoula, [livejournal.com profile] damara, [livejournal.com profile] flashfire, [livejournal.com profile] janne, [livejournal.com profile] kairee, [livejournal.com profile] lostkun, [livejournal.com profile] lyonesse, [livejournal.com profile] mizkit, [livejournal.com profile] quietharm, [livejournal.com profile] risu, [livejournal.com profile] shadowhwk, [livejournal.com profile] solarbird, [livejournal.com profile] ssha, [livejournal.com profile] syn, [livejournal.com profile] vaercyn, and [livejournal.com profile] xpioti... gosh, I have quite a few former Willowholters on my Friends list. :)

Anyway, for those of you who don't know already, I was running a plot on Two Moons in 2002 involving humans from the continent to the south of the one that the MUSH is set on. A small number of them got shipwrecked on the MUSH's continent, there was some RP, and eventually Wayfound discovered that an ancient elf by the name of Djhala had actually wandered down to the southern continent and remembered a human tribe advancing, down there. Wayfound has, off camera, tried to follow the route Djhala took in his distant past, to lead the Vraeyans back to their homeland.

[livejournal.com profile] solarbird and I have decided that Rillwhisper, Woodhawk, and Trollkiller, who we have retired from play on TM, actually decided to follow Wayfound down and catch up with her. Rillwhisper's intention would be to say to her daughter, "Where DO you think you're going?" And then they'll get down to Vrae, realize, "Gosh, the humans down here don't want to actually kill us with sticks! And you know what else? NO GLIDERS AND NO UNDERWORLDERS." So Rill'll go, "OKAY! Time to found a new Holt."

Just in case any of y'all are curious about the fate of the Vraeyans, and/or the fate of the three remaining founding Willowholters, and/or Wayfound. This all got rolling around in my brain because TM has a new Staffer in charge of humans, and she and I were yakking about the Vraeyans and I was giving her permission to use them in continuity with current human RP on the game if she wanted. If I ever get any time in between writing actual novels, I may play with all of this in EQ/TM fanfic or something. It's not actually likely to come up on the MUSH, but this will be the official fate for Rillwhisper and her lifemates and her daughter. It'll also make for the first official elfin contact the Vraeyan culture has off-camera, as well.
annathepiper: (Alan and Sean Ordinary Day)

Okay folks — it’s a whole year (or two, depending on who’s counting) too late to be my New Millennium webpage. But well hey. I got the urge to change things around here again, get rid of a lot of content I won’t be updating anymore, move some stuff up a level in order to make it easier to find, give the place a whole new graphical scheme, and fix a whole bunch of things that were broken.

In honor of all of these changes I have bought myself my very own shiny new domain name, which points to this place now: www.annathepiper.org. My usual address will still get here, of course, but I always rather wanted my own domain name, too. It’s up and running, everybody, so please feel free to use it in your bookmarks. Here’s the nitty gritty on everything I’ve changed around, though:

  • Almost all of my MUSH character pages have been removed, since I am no longer playing AetherMUSH. Instead, I have set up a directory for old characters in my MUSH section, and have pages summarizing my various alts on various MUSHes there that I’ve played over the years. The exception is old characters from Two Moons MUSH, which are still chronicled in detail in the Two Moons section of the site.
  • All my old logs are still up and available to be read, though. All logs not from Two Moons live in the MUSH section now, in the old logs section. I will still periodically update this part of my page as time and whim dictate, since I do still have a bunch of unedited logs I haven’t gotten around to posting, but the priority on this has gone down. Old logs pertaining to Two Moons MUSH as well as the set of logs for the only active roleplay I’m doing right now, which is for the Seafarers group of sailors on that game, can be found in the Two Moons section.
  • My small pages for Great Big Sea and 30 Odd Foot of Grunts have been moved up a level out of the Music section, to make finding them easier.
  • Speaking of music, I’ve also added a formal top-level link for the section of my site devoted to my jamming group, Three Good Measures.
  • Y’know those little blurbs on the main index, or up at the top of my sub-pages, that change when you roll your pointer over the menu graphics? Well, those weren’t ever centered right in Netscape, and they weren’t showing up at all on Opera, both of which rather drove me batty. So I did a lot of restructuring of stuff under the hood to eliminate those problems, and I should be looking okay on all three of those browsers now (or at least, up through IE 6, Opera 6, and Netscape 4.79; I haven’t tested against Netscape 6.x, because I haven’t bothered to actually install it on my personal machine. Anybody out there use Netscape 6.x and wanna tell me if I look okay on that browser, drop me a line).
  • Pretty much all the other top-level pages have been updated in some form or other, links checked for validity and such. And the Sitemap has been duly updated to reflect the overall changed status of the site. If you need to find something, that remains the best place to look.

I’ve tested the updated site on IE 5.5, Netscape 4.79, and Opera 6, at resolutions 1024×768, 800×600, and 640×480. If you’re using a different browser or a different resolution and see anything that looks broken, or, for that matter, if you see anything that looks broken in general, drop me a line and let me know!

And I hope y’all like the redecorating I’ve done around here!

EDITING TO ADD 11/3/2019: Removed the link off of 30 Odd Foot of Grunts in the third bullet point in the list in this post, because that page is no longer active.
