I have a question for you. I and a few others are playing with the idea of doing some off-MUSH fanfic about what happens to the Vraeyans after they go off-camera from Two Moons MUSH--and I wanted to ask you whether we had ever determined whether Coralfire would go south to Vrae with them, or whether she would stay with the Olbar tribe? Since she had paired off with Torgan, I was unsure which way that ought to go. And since Twinkle, our new Human staffer, was curious as to whether any Vraeyan blood will have gotten into the Olbar gene pool, I wanted to see what your thoughts were on the matter. :)

Well now. That coulda gone either way. Coralfire didn't have a really superstrong tie to the Olbar to begin with, what with having been raised by the Raft tribe and all. So I could see her heading off with the Vraeyans, truthfully. She was just as happy with them as anywhere. Course, if you want Vraeyan blood mixed into the Olbar, then she coulda stayed. It makes no difference to me how you plot it. And certainly, I'm sure her whole family would have been perfectly happy if she had a baby or two. except maybe that nasty evil brother type. :)

Well, it's not likely to get dealt with on camera because the Olbar tribe has pretty much gone kaputt--but Twinkle was asking about the mix of bloodlines and possible mix of knowledge as well. But even as it stands, the crew would have had a few years hanging out in Olbar territory before they actually set off southward. So any interesting mix of knowledge could happen in that time, and one or two of the NPCs might have chosen to stay.

Whether Torgan would have done, I expect, would very heavily depend on whether Coralfire wanted to stay among her own people. Vardeus and the others would certainly welcome her. :) And if Coralfire'd be happy going with them I daresay that they'd therefore go along.

The other reason this is interesting to me is that I'm playing with the idea of Arnos and Wayfound becoming the weirdest pair of lifemates that Abode has ever seen (muahahaha!), and if Coralfire is actually with the group, then Wayfound's going to want to have a very interesting conversation with her at some point and I want to account for that in my plotting. ^_^

*laughs* Oh sure. I actually think Coralfire ended up more comfortable with the Vraeyans than the Olbar. So that works for me.

Whoot! Then she gets to have the fun of seeing Vrae with her own eyes, too. ^_^

If you're interested, I wrote up a rough timeline of stuff I'm probably going to write about off and on in between working on the Real Books--I posted this over on the LJ community I made for all the former Willowholters and folks who are interested in the former Willowholt, since what brought all this on is the idea of playing with fanfic centering around Rill taking a small party down to the southern continent after Wayfound, and winding up founding a new Holt down there.

Nope! There's Dharce's two kids that were born during the span of RP we did--they'd be older than the twins. And if Torgan and Coralfire are coming along, they could probably pop out one or two on the way down. :)

I seem to recollect that Franni's player had had her making eyes at Dorian, so they might have a kid too! Muah!

I have this mental picture of Wayfound being a favorite of the children, as she is closer to their size than any of the adults. And three or four of them trying to follow her when she takes off into the woods to have herself a proper Wolfrider hunt. ;) VERY DIFFICULT to be stealthy when you've got three or four noisy human cubs trying to tag along after you...!

Hee hee! With, I think, Vard and Tiana's little girl Rilke as the ringleader. She can hunt JUST LIKE WAYFOUND! See, she even has a rock! (Which she will, of course, throw at her brother by way of demosntration. ;) )

Indeed--which brings me around to the Interesting Conversation that Wayfound will probably want to have with Coralfire at some point. ;) Wayfound does know that Coralfire was raised by her own kind--I recently actually dug up the log and posted it, in my current effort to get caught up on my backlog. Wayfound's going to want to know if Coralfire knows at all if humans and elves can join!

Hee! Well, the OOC answer to this, from what we know of the books, is that human/elf joinings do get occasionally tried. In Hidden Years, in the story about Tyleet raising a human cub, Aroree tells the tribe she was once 'curious' with the kept humans of Blue Mountain, and so she volunteers to be the one to try to teach 'Little Patch' about joining. But in the story, it goes badly; Tyleet, who is narrating the action, describes how 'our bloodsong is pitched higher than they can bear'. The young human is depicted fleeing the tribe in anguish, and this is the event that drives him to seek out the local humans and try to live among them.

We also know from the Shards storyline that Grohmul Djun lay once with Winnowill in her human form, and he later rails at her that he nearly "lost his soul" as a result. BUT, we know furthermore that in the Futurequest era, Jink, the (apparently) last surviving she-elf on Abode, takes human lovers--if they're telepaths. Because telepathic humans are apparently the only ones who can handle joining with her.

The favored theory among the Staff is that for most humans, joining with elves--who are active telepaths--is too emotionally intense for them to bear it. I'm playing with the idea of Arnos and Wayfound getting away with it because a) Wayfound is not a strong sender, and b) Arnos could be one of the first humans on Abode with early telepathic potential in his DNA. ;) Which isn't entirely bogus. There's a story in Blood of Ten Chiefs, that's even pre-Cutter-era, in which a human manages a very rough kind of sending by ingesting the proper kind of weird plant. So the potential had to start cropping up in human DNA at some point, even if it doesn't come into full bloom until the Futurequest era. :)

Well see, I was not the first player of Coralfire. And in her bg, she rescued and helped nurse some wolfrider back to health, living with him until he got killed by some sort of monster...

I do not know what happened there, only that they were playing on the mu*. Never seen any logs, nor heard any details.

Innnnnnteresting. :) That pings off something in my memory; I think I heard passingly about that. Heck, maybe Coralfire's also carrying latent telepathic potential in her genes. ;)

Heck if I know. But I suppose it is possible. Or the other possibility is that it went badly (though that would not be my guess from the length of time the two spent together) and that's why the human males had such a hard time winning her over. :)

That also sounds plausible! ^_^ Heh--well, the Pinis never said that humans and elves couldn't join, just that they couldn't BREED. ;) So at some point some time surely it is reasonable to have it tried and work!

So, if Coralfire's going down to Vrae, let me know if you want me to write in anything in particular pertaining to her and Torgan, e.g., name and number of children, e.g., whether Coralfire keeps going by Coralfire or uses her human name in Vrae, that kind of thing. :) I shall be slow at writing this, but planning it out is also fun!

Also, anyone who was in on the Seafarers RP is welcome to participate in this little project, so if you get the yen to play with it yourself, by all means feel free to do so. ^_^

I expect that Coralfire will continue to go by Coralfire, though it would no doubt get shortened to Coral. As for children, I'm thinking 3 ... though I haven't got any further than that. And by the time they get to Vrae, probably only one is born. A boy and heck if I know what they'd name the kid. I'll have to think about that. Actually, it would be just Coralfire's luck to be 9 months pregnant just as they arrive in Vrae or some such. :)

Would she get to be part of the crew too?

Heck yeah! She would have been adopted as one of their own just as much as Wayfound. :D And I think we had at least one other unaccounted for extra earring, so she can claim the other one. ;)

MMmMMm, kids... hrmm... do you want the first one born before the long journey sets out? 'Cause trying to think of which kids would be in the "Let's Learn How to Hunt Like Wayfound" gang. There'd be Jorrico and Shelbor the Younger, as well as the twins Rilke and Marcos. Hee!

Heh, maybe Coralfire and Torgan's firstborn is the smallest of the crowd that tags along after Wayfound. I had this picture of the smallest of the lot of them being barely old enough to talk, but scurrying like a treewee to keep up with the others. ^_- Maybe trying to mimic the others' talking!

I've had a big chat with Twinkle, our new Human staffer, today--and decided that she gets to have five, count 'em, five of my Vraeyan NPCs to mix 'em into the bloodlines in the Olbar tribe. Three of the ones I turned over to her were Dharce and her two boys, so this means that we won't have quite as many kids on the way down to Vrae as I thought. ;)

*checks TM character database* Coralfire's human name was Iliana. Want that to be her firstborn daughter?

Iliana it is! When would you like the kid born, roughly? There's a couple years' worth of space IC between when the Vraeyans get to the Olbar village and when they set out south. :) By the time the journey begins, Vard and Tiana's twins are four years old!

You know, the odd thing is that I just brought Djhala back 'on-camera', come up to Sorrow's End. I'd not consistently played, and pretty much nothing on-camera, for the last three-five months. I decided that Djhala had travelled south, checking up on the Vrayeans and the surrounding cities.

A bad journey, and he really didn't want to talk about it. Long, rough, and wearying...
