Folks, yesterday's High Wind Watch is now upgraded to a High Wind Warning. Do what you need to to get ready for this today if at all possible.
The Times has an article up on the incoming mess here. The PI has an article here.
ETA 3:36pm: The wind warning seems to be focused on areas to the east of Seattle proper, so if you're in the Seattle metropolitan area, you'll probably miss most of the wind fun.
On the other hand? The Seattle metro area does have a Winter Storm Warning up.
They're also mentioning a potential ice storm for Tacoma and areas south, as this winter storm may turn to snow mixed with freezing rain in that area.
So basically, there'll be all sorts of suck going on with the weather this weekend, and what particular brand of suck you get is going to depend on where you are. I'd say, be prepared for just general unpleasantness.

Date: 2008-12-20 10:57 am (UTC)Plus, a transformer blew down the road and the whole neighborhood went black in 18 degree weather. We all trooped the 2 blocks to my grandmother's house, because at least she had two natural gas stoves with press-click lighters that worked without electricity. :) It was kind of fun for a kid - very cold and very sparkly, but I can't imagine what it must've been like for people who actually -had- to go somewhere. Like my mom the ER nurse. (They were busy)
Anyway. Keep warm this weekend! :) Best to you and yours for Longest Night.

Date: 2008-12-20 08:19 pm (UTC)We'll be okay for warmth; our gas fireplaces, which normally make me sneer because you shouldn't have to just "turn on" a real fireplace, are surprisingly useful during a power outage because they still work. As does our gas-powered stove. So worst comes to worst we can just hang out in our living room around the gas fireplace. And we've got plenty of oil lamps for light. The servers are on a UPS that gives us just enough time to bring them down cleanly.
Not sure how much of this incoming crap we're going to get hit with; Seattle's showing the Winter Storm Warning still and Kenmore's showing the High Wind Warning, so we might only get a bit of either. Or we might get hit with both! We don't know!
