Uck - I remember the last ice storm we had in Tacoma. It was the Arctic Express in '90, and not only did we lose power, but the big maple tree outside my bedroom window literally exploded and had to be taken out. :(

Plus, a transformer blew down the road and the whole neighborhood went black in 18 degree weather. We all trooped the 2 blocks to my grandmother's house, because at least she had two natural gas stoves with press-click lighters that worked without electricity. :) It was kind of fun for a kid - very cold and very sparkly, but I can't imagine what it must've been like for people who actually -had- to go somewhere. Like my mom the ER nurse. (They were busy)
