annathepiper: (Wrath of Gaz)
GUH. We did not test a single thing yesterday. While I suppose I should not complain too much about a quiet day at work after all the time we've been putting in, it is still nevertheless vexing to be told "Oh, we have to test this, we have to test this RIGHT NOW" and then to sit for hours actually waiting for the build to come out. And never actually getting it.

For extra giggles and grins, I missed my usual ride home with [livejournal.com profile] spazzkat because we were told that we'd probably need to hang around until 5pm, and Paul and I usually go home around 4:30. Round about 4:35, five minutes after Paul bailed, they tell us we can go home.

Today, I'm nearly two hours on the clock and we still don't have a build to test. One of the builds we were expecting has just failed BATs (the tests that get run to determine whether the build's even worth testing), so we may not see it AT ALL. Some of the other builds we're waiting on aren't scheduled for today after all. So it's anybody's guess, really, whether I'm going to have a productive work day or not. There are rumblings that weekend work will specifically NOT be happening, just because we're all absolutely fried around here, but if this lag on the builds keeps up I don't know how well that proclamation is going to stand.

The good news is, at least, that I got paid this morning and the first of the piles of overtime pay showed up on that check. So!

And so far this morning I've mostly been wandering around LJ looking for icons and/or icon bases. As per the clever suggestion of [livejournal.com profile] kaseido, I went over to [livejournal.com profile] underdark_icons and admiringly scarfed several of her Eowyn, Galadriel, and Arwen bases for experimental tinkering. I shall try my hand at making some of the icon concepts I have in my head, next week when I will be lying around bored silly. I'll need something else to do besides reading Harry Potter, after all.

I went looking for whether anyone had done a screencap of the moment out of Invader Zim that I want, too--and someone had done an animated gif of it, but it's not quite what I want. Going to have to see if I can fit the pic I want into 100x100 pixels. I did, however, find an excellent Gaz icon, which sums up my mood rather nicely.

Hey, [livejournal.com profile] seimaisin! How would you feel about me playing with some of your GBS pics to see if I can make good icons out of them? You do take such excellent pictures, and I have a yen to see if I can make me a good Alan one, or perhaps Séan!

This has been today's use of LJ as personal messenger service. The rest of you, nothin' to see here, move along.
annathepiper: (Hard Day)
[livejournal.com profile] solarbird has just relayed to me that we've gotten the call with my surgery checkin time for this coming Tuesday: 6:30am, for surgery at 8:30am. I am to eat NOTHING the evening before, and as I recall, I won't be allowed to wear my contacts the morning of the surgery, either.

Guh. Checking last year's writeup, I see that the checkin time then was 7:00am. Plus, last year we were still at MurkSouth. This year we're at MurkNorth and the checkin time is earlier. So we'll have to get up even earlier. GUH. It's a good thing I'll be spending all of that day zonked out, because I'm going to need the sleep.

WEEKEND!

Looks like I get to have a weekend, finally. To celebrate this, and to celebrate the end of the positively ridiculous amounts of overtime I have been working this week, I intend to go buy myself a treat. This will do double duty as something to do while I'm Recovering From Surgery Girl next week, too!

But I do not know what to get, and my brain, it is mush. So clearly I need your all's input on this, people. Sing out!

Tonight I have made my very first icon. Tell me what you think, folks!

Credit goes to:

  • [livejournal.com profile] underdark_icons for the Eowyn base
  • Carbon Leaf, for the snippet of lyrics from "Desperation Song" off Echo Echo, a lovely little bit of wordage that I thought went stunningly well with that radiant smile
  • Paint Shop Pro 7, for the illumination and buttonizing effects
  • Vivaldi and Copperplate Gothic Bold fonts
