First up: someone does a LOLCutter on [livejournal.com profile] elfquest, and lo, it is the Win.

Second: the 2008 Hugo nominations are out! I haven't actually read any of the contenders for Best Novel this year, though I am eying the Scalzi and the Stross, to be sure. And I must also admit that I looked at the blurb on Rollback in the store, and the concept sounded interesting. I may well indeed have to check out the reviews going around on these books.

However, I'd like to call your all's attention to the delightful list of contenders for Best Dramatic Presentation, Short Form:

Battlestar Galactica "Razor" Written by Michael Taylor Directed by Félix Enríquez Alcalá and Wayne Rose (Sci Fi Channel) (televised version, not DVD)

Doctor Who "Blink" Written by Stephen Moffat Directed by Hettie Macdonald (BBC)

Doctor Who "Human Nature" / "Family of Blood" Written by Paul Cornell Directed by Charles Palmer (BBC)

Star Trek New Voyages "World Enough and Time" Written by Michael Reaves & Marc Scott Zicree Directed by Marc Scott Zicree (Cawley Entertainment Co. and The Magic Time Co.)

Torchwood "Captain Jack Harkness" Written by Catherine Tregenna Directed by Ashley Way (BBC Wales)

I am particularly delighted by the Doctor Who squareoff, and am hopeful that [livejournal.com profile] paulcornell2 will score the win despite the excellent competition from Mr. Moffat--just because a) Mr. Cornell is awesome, and b) as I gushed before, David Tennant's performance in that two-parter was incredible.

However, I am genuinely unsure whether either of these will pull ahead of the competition!

And last but not least, Juno says no on Faerie Blood, but this was another favorable rejection, purely a "not to my taste" thing. I can deal with that. Now I'll just have to figure out where else I have left to send this one while I'm querying Lament of the Dove; DAW's most likely. We'll see.

Bwahahaha!

Snurched off of the Fandom Lounge community over on JournalFen, I bring you [livejournal.com profile] tw_babiez. As the JF poster asserted, this is indeed better than the actual program. ;>

So [livejournal.com profile] risu and I were trying to get caught up on the BBC America broadcasts of Torchwood that had been queueing up on our Tivo--and we'd made it up through "Combat". Or so we'd thought. Apparently BBC America actually aired the Doctor in the time slot where Tivo was expecting Torchwood!

Now, don't get me wrong, it's not like I mind looking at David Tennant... but he is not immediately useful to me finishing off Torchwood's first season! We do have the last two episodes confirmed, though, so my question for y'all is this:

How critical is "Combat" to the end of the season? Can we safely skip it and watch the last two, or should we try to get the episode by other means?

Whatever kicked my ass between Wednesday and Thursday did a pretty fair job of it: I wound up being home sick both Thursday and Friday, pretty wiped out still on Saturday, and only just this afternoon started feeling coherent enough that I needed to get out of the house for a while. Ergo, [livejournal.com profile] solarbird and I went down to the shops for the usual Sunday market run, and even after that, I needed a long nap.

I'm still not entirely sure what it was that hit me. I was quite nauseous and weak, and periodically hit with chills; I was not, however, running a temperature. I'm kind of wondering if the BBQ sandwich I had at Lake Forest Park on Wednesday night just severely disagreed with me, or if I caught some sort of funky mild bug or what.

I spent a good chunk of the time getting caught up on the Doctor Who tapes that [livejournal.com profile] spazzkat had gotten out for me to watch, as I've previously posted. I got all the way through the Sixth Doctor storyline "Revelation of the Daleks" as well as the First Doctor's "The Chase" (which, as it turned out, was the final appearance of the Companions Ian and Barbara). This leaves me with the two non-canon Doctor Who remake movies that had Peter Cushing in them; Paul likes to call these "Grand Moff Doctor". Hee.

Meanwhile, [livejournal.com profile] risu and I have commenced getting caught up on Torchwood, since [livejournal.com profile] mamishka kindly brought us a rental of the first two discs of Series 1 from Scarecrow. We've made it through the first four episodes so far. Survey says, pilot held up better than I expected on a second viewing, and episodes 2 and 3 weren't half bad. But episode 4 was godawful. I do like the tie-ins to plotlines from Doctor Who, and I like Gwen as a character as well as the glimpses of character development we've seen for Jack so far. Gwen's boyfriend is a nice character as well. The rest of the Torchwood team, though, vacillates between being non-entities and being actively annoying. I'll hope they mesh better as a team as the series progresses.

And, since [livejournal.com profile] rmd and [livejournal.com profile] clauclauclaudia were in town over the weekend, they came by yesterday along with [livejournal.com profile] kathrynt and [livejournal.com profile] llachglin and their baby Lillian, as well as Meems and off-LJ friend Danny. Wii bowling was enjoyed by all, as well as a bit of the new Guitar Hero game; pizza was consumed, pleasant conversation was had, and there was much amusing interaction with le bebeh, who is working very, very hard on that whole Standing Up concept.

All of this wound up being about all I could manage over the last few days. What did not happen was editing, and I really need to get back on the stick with that starting tomorrow night. I owe [livejournal.com profile] aerialscribe a major revision, and it needs to be done before Japan. So no one be surprised if I drop off the face of the Net over the next week or two, hey?

Last but not least, just for giggles and grins, let's try cross-posting this to all the journals I have up now and see if this works.
