solarbird has just found out from Northwest Link, our ISP, that Verizon has moved out the due date for when our DSL is supposed to come online by ANOTHER WEEK. I.e., our due date is now 8/23. And Dara just tried to call up Verizon to find out what the fuck is going on and to tell them that this is NOT acceptable--and the difficulty of getting someone on their customer support line who has clue one what Dara is talking about is just absolutely astounding. Dara has been told by two different people that third-party ISPs are not allowed to provide service on Verizon DSL lines
at all, and they refused to actually transfer her to someone who actually does handle third-party ISPs. She has had to go to Northwest Link to ask
them who they've been talking to.
In other words, she had to ask
Northwest Link for a proper contact at
Verizon.
She's on that number now, and is being told that at best, we'll have to try on Friday. So now at least it's another two days rather than another WEEK. But still, we're getting screwed. >:|

Date: 2004-08-18 02:37 pm (UTC)Dara says that the folks at NWLink have warned her that Verizon acts like they actively hate third-party ISPs using their lines to provide DSL service. And from the way they've been dicking us around (did I mention that they tried to tell Dara that we'd have to send back the DSL modem they sent us for the original fucked up order and that they would then send out an IDENTICAL MODEM?), we're starting to believe it. Dara even told one of the Verizon phonedroids this morning this, right over the line. :P

Date: 2004-08-18 03:43 pm (UTC)where i am, Aliant is IT for adsl service, otherwise it's *spit*Rogers*spit* and cable service...
to make matters worse, Aliant ahs been on strike since the last week in April. management is doing all the tech work, and they ARE trained, but slower, and now the strikers CAN picket ANY location that is being worked upon by mgmt, so they COULD picket the house... also, neil's sister's hubby is an Aliant worker... on strike... we ain't calling OURS for anything shy of "NOT WORKING" like when the phone borked on us in may taking the adsl w/ it...
i want to upgrade us from standard adsl to ultra adsl (not much more $$) and get neil his own account, but i'm waiting till the strike is over. i will NOT participate in scab labour OR union busting if i can possibly help it...
*sigh*
so if there even WAS a 3rd party adsl provider in the area, they'd have to strike-break to provide a new installation right now, and well.. not happening...
to that end, tho this sounds SO WRONG, we NEED a hurricane or other weather-related disaster that takes out phone service to a SIGNIFICANT portion of NB, NS, PE or NF, b/c NO telco will cross hte picket lines to help w/ disaster relief, and so the mgmt would be forced to bargain in at least half-assed faith w/ the union (and vise versa) and end the strike PDQ or else a sig portion of the area is w/o an essential service! management can handle day-to-day ops and stuff, but they can't cope w/ a disaster... OH, and if it were to co-incide w/ student move into univ & college week, even better :) :) :)
bb- hi-jacking anna's thread! ;)

Date: 2004-08-19 10:07 am (UTC)I'm not betting we'll have any DSL tomorrow, the way this entire fiasco has gone. We'll be lucky to have it next week. Though if we don't have it next week, I expect Dara's going to have somebody's head on a platter. :P

Date: 2004-08-20 10:44 am (UTC)Murkworks.net can't really come back online properly till we get our DSL back up--and I can't recover the work I lost on the TM site until then, either. Grf.
