Another poster on the OKP following the "Anna the Piper's Impending Surgery" thread I've launched up there has suggested to me that perhaps I will meet a cute doctor while I am having my surgery.

This does not strike me as the optimum situation in which to meet a cute doctor, if nothing else because I would like to hope that I will be UNCONSCIOUS while my thyroid is being removed, and it is very difficult to be charming when you're having your neck cut open.

On the other hand, I also suspect that I would have to be doped to the gills on morphine before the words "Hi, you just took out my thyroid, how'd you like to take out the rest of me?" actually left my mouth.

Basic decency dictates that I note at this point that the surgeon to whom I have been referred is in fact female, and I would daresay that she would be the one performing the procedure. ;)

Wacky, LJ was really late sending me this comment email! I wonder where it got lost!

But as it happens, I did not remember to blurt this line to my surgeon. I didn't even SEE her yesterday, as she was long gone by the time I woke up in the recovery room--and although she came and checked on me this morning, I was way too out of it to remember to be clever. ;)

But personally, I prefer doctors that look like, say, Walter Cronkite. Experienced.

As the surgeon I'm going to go see is female, she probably doesn't look like ol' Walter--though I could be similarly reassured by a redoubtable woman resembling oh, say, Judi Dench!

Oh, perfect image! I was trying to think of an equivalent woman, but couldn't come up with one.

I guess I'm now officially an Old Fogey (tm). The last doctor we saw in the ER didn't look old enough to drive to me. With her little ponytail and sneakers (I know, completely practical and exactly what I wore to work yesterday ;), she looked like she just got here from softball practice.

Oh, I've started having those little flashes periodically, every time I contemplate that my little brother's oldest kid is now almost a TEENAGER and I still remember this kid being the size of an 11-month-old tot!

I get those constantly...my brother is a GRANDFATHER. And one of his grandkids is the near the same age as my middle kid.

(granted my brother had an early start and so did the two girls who had kids but still..)

Dunno yet. I'm not scheduled to go have my first chat with the surgeon until the 14th--that's the appointment that my own doctor got scheduled for me. Don't know if this was a factor of "that was the earliest she could get me", or "this isn't a medical emergency so we don't have to do it RIGHT THIS INSTANT", or both.

Just as long as it doesn't make me miss out on Writer's Weekend, I'll be cool.

Very true, though I hope that this will not be a closed-sum sort of surgery, in which any points I acquire would detract from the points accrued by patients in surrounding rooms, as that would sort of suck! ;)
