Today was all about the sleeping
Jan. 21st, 2004 09:28 pmI'd had this thought that if I slept okay last night I'd try to go into work today. HAHAHAHAHAHA. I slept terribly, tossing and turning all night, and probably disturbing the hell out of
solarbird. I didn't get anything that really felt like sleep till I came downstairs to email in sick and collapsed on the couch afterwards; only then did I start hitting deeper sleep cycles, I think.
And off and on all throughout the day, I slept. It was pretty much like falling down a deep well of drowsiness. I'd play with the computer for a while, then zonk over sideways onto the pillows and zzzzzzzzzz. Ultimately, though, this appears to have been a good thing. I think I was running a mild fever, as I remember feeling cold and curling up in the corner of the couch, and Dara putting blankets on me. Later on when I roused back towards consciousness I'd gotten a little sweaty, and since then I've felt more normal temperature-wise. Still a little sniffly, but the coughing appears to have stopped and although I'm feeling wiped, I'm more or less alert.
I finished off The Mauritius Command last night, the fourth Aubrey/Maturin novel. It was weird reading a book that's more or less set in the time frame that the movie was aiming for; it was a big 'ahh, okay, so this is what Jack and Stephen were actually doing around then' kind of experience. The opening with Jack at home with his family was very charming, and I did like some of the other characters that Stephen interacted with a lot.
I played Nethack a lot today, too. Didn't get very far in any games, though. Getting killed by a kitten was probably a good indicator that I wasn't really up to speed with my Nethack today.
And I also wrote, in between the massive bouts of drowsiness. Chapter 22 still isn't done, but at least I'm still coming in over my daily word count goal despite being ill. Stupid cold. And the chapter IS very close to the end now. I may, if I'm lucky, manage to finish off the book this weekend. We'll have to see.
