Aaaaaand that's two
Jan. 2nd, 2004 08:44 amSlips on ice, that is. There I am riding the bus down 520, and about when we get to 128th or so, I start seeing a lot of snow on the ground. It gets thicker as we get closer to Microsoft, and when I get off the bus there's a considerable dusting all over the sidewalks and the pavement in general. And ::whump::, I slipped on it. Not as bad a slip as the last one, but still annoying. Hit my knee and now my jeans leg is wet.

Date: 2004-01-02 09:03 am (UTC)D.J. had to go into work today. Iprayed the whole way, so concerned about him... Wish he had a job he could just not go when it was this bad.

Date: 2004-01-02 09:46 am (UTC)And the weather itself doesn't strike me as all that bad, per se; the badness comes with most of the city not really being prepared for even something this comparatively mild on the scale of winter weather. My coworker said he saw about 12 munched cars while coming into work; Dara reports that she heard tell of several roads being closed due to black ice this morning as well.
Weather.com says we're in for rain/snow showers today and snow showers tomorrow, with a low of 19 tomorrow as well. So I expect there to be more ice.

Date: 2004-01-03 04:33 am (UTC)there were 2" of fresh snow on the roofs (rooves? neither of those looks right)of the cars and it was coming down FAST and HARD (remind me and i'll get the pics my passenger took during the loading process). but by the time i covered half of the 22km (~14mi) north-east home, it was much lighter. and by the time i got the rest of the way home, it was barely pretending to think about snowing. My street will still be a mess in the morning, though. Thank gods i get to stay home and play with my new (to me) Handspring Visor. :)

Date: 2004-01-03 01:41 pm (UTC)So I'm given to understand that Vancouver's climate is a lot like Seattle's; do y'all tend to see snow frequently during the winter up there? Or is it a sporadic thing like it is down here? We've had flurries this afternoon but nothing yet in accumulation. I'm bummed; weather.com had us down for snow showers today. ;)
And yeah, good thing your friend with the monitor didn't take the fall, that would have been painful for him and the monitor!

Date: 2004-01-04 12:03 am (UTC)my mother always used to claim that we got snow twice a year - once in November and once in January. Two amendments to this: a friend is labelling his pictures from a week and a half ago "the first snow of 2003"; and Valentine's Day 1990 I got trapped downtown in what qualified as one HELL of a blizzard by local standards. So, my mother's theory developed from 40 years in BC appears to be going out the window.

Random muppet: Hi guys!
Everyone else: Watch out for the ...
Random muppet slips and falls spectacularly
Everyone else: Icy patch. *sigh*
That and the time that I fell in front of a (thankfully non-moving) bus because I jumped over a snowbank and encountered the icy patch on the other side. I still have a scar from that.

Date: 2004-01-04 11:55 am (UTC)We're off the hook for ice, I think, at least for the next few days. The current forecast has us without any more snow at least until the middle of the week, and right now it's actually blindingly sunny outside!
