And speaking of Turkey Day
Nov. 28th, 2003 12:18 amThe annual Murkworks Homeless Waifs Thanksgiving Day Turkeyfest was a success! And also bigger than we've had it in a while, courtesy of having a good sixteen people show up. Attendance included the traditional core Murkworks of myself,
solarbird,
mamishka, and
spazzkat;
flashfire who is making it a personal tradition to come up and see us every year around now;
kingchiron and
darthhellokitty; Tony who had attended Mimi's pirate party and who brought his wife Ann with him; Liz, my LMP, who brought a couple of her boyfriends with her (Matt and
pauldf);
ssha who we finally got to see again, and who updated us on what's been going on with her medical situation; Fred from Jam, who quite delightfully is sporting a beard these days and who showed up in a denim kilt, and who brought his brother Chris with him (also wearing a kilt); and
snout who I barely said two words to but I was sort of distracted!
Attractions of the evening included Mimi's traditional balloon animals, which went over very well as many of our attendees had not yet been introduced to the Balloon Animal Alien; several rounds of You Don't Know Jack, on which I got my ass soundly kicked, but on which I did at least manage to finish with a positive score after having a good round of luck with the Jack Attack round; several rounds of Bubble Crack (including what is fast becoming the annual face-off between Meems and James); a great deal of conversation; showing what's left of The Claw to
pauldf; and my managing to squeeze out enough paragraphs to finish off Chapter 12.
As per usual we have scads of leftovers. As per unusual, however, several of us in the Murk have determined that we did not in fact eat nearly as much as we often do! We have a whole bunch of cookies left over.
Mmmmm. Cookies.

Date: 2003-11-28 11:01 am (UTC)Then I re-read it and realized you typed "Tam Tams". But that reads with a short a to me! I don't know how the character's name is supposed to be spelled. ;) But then again, if I'm pondering the spelling of the name of a video game character this is probably the sign of being quite fuzzyheaded post-Turkey-Day!
Aannnnyway, yeah, he and Meems went for a good solid half hour playing little Indians against one another. Hee hee.

Date: 2003-11-28 01:56 pm (UTC)First off, she's started radiation therapy. She's finding that a very exhausting experience, but it is mitigated by the medical staff being very supportive to her. She spoke highly of that. But it's also making her sleep a great deal, and it will be making her lose some hair. She's wearing bandannas these days. And she's larger-framed still as a result of the effects of the tumor.
Her left eye, the one that had the optic nerve traumatized by the tumor, is improving. She's getting some more vision back in it, and they have her wearing some goggles with a bit of tape over part of it in order to exercise that eye and help it regain some strength.
She is still unable to drive and is going to be out of work for the next several months, and at the moment her net access is erratic at best. She's only getting access via occasionally popping on from church, though she's trying to get an account with a local ISP.
