Darrell Power is quitting Great Big Sea. Sniffle.

I shall be quite bummed about this. A GBS show will not be the same without him... because if nothing else, we won't get to have him belting out "Excursion Around the Bay" on encores any more. And I will miss his low rumbling bass line in "General Taylor" and "The Chemical Worker's Song". Granted, me and mine at GBS shows are pretty much always standing at Stage Bob... Stage Séan at the most... so we don't generally actually get to see Darrell at the concerts. When the concert was broadcast on Trio, it was actually a surprise to get to see Darrell for once and what he was doing with his instrument...

But well. "Jakey's Gin" is Darrell's, and so is "I'se the B'y", and so even if I'm generally busy ogling Alan and Séan... I'll be missing Darrell much.

Here's a virtual glass raised to ya, Darrell.

Wow...and in some ways, this doesn't come as a surprise.

Darrell's the one who took the time to give alexander his playlist from the last show, and talked with us after the show for quite a while.

On the other hand, that means there's a spot opened up for someone who knows the songs and can sing the baritone/bass parts. Hmmmm....wonder where auditions are going to be?

Speaking of your jamming group, i've got to manage to at least come observe (and perhaps contribute a little in the way of background vocals) one of these days, even if i don't play until i pick up a more sizeable chunk of the repetoire than i have now.

"Morning" then in the con sense of the word- where you can see someone at 5 p.m. and wish them a good morning. :-)

But no one's mentioned pie before. If i knew there was pie involved.....

Darrell talked to Cyn and Monica in our jamming group, and our friend Jessica too. Cyn told me about how she asked him what he sang for his part in "General Taylor" and he asked her how SHE sings it. I didn't get to witness this, darn it. I was at Worldcon at the time.

Heh! I expect they'd be holding the auditions in St. John's. ;) Maybe if you run over thattaway REAL fast....
