PIRATES!

Okay folks, I promised a post of great piratical YARR-itude after last night's adventure into Woodinville, so here we go! Big kudos go out to [livejournal.com profile] mamishka for organizing it all, for lo, we had quite the large herd both at Red Robin and at the Woodinville Cinema, where we gathered to pillage, plunder, and drink tasty drinks full of rum. The hands on deck included of course the Meems (a.k.a. the Dread Pirate Captain Maggie Wiles), [livejournal.com profile] solarbird, [livejournal.com profile] spazzkat, [livejournal.com profile] darthhellokitty, [livejournal.com profile] kingchiron, [livejournal.com profile] lyricae, [livejournal.com profile] tinlail, [livejournal.com profile] tiggymalvern, and many more. [livejournal.com profile] lyricae and [livejournal.com profile] tiggymalvern both took pictures, and their shots should hopefully be showing up on their journals as well as Meems' soon! But they've also sent pics around, so I'll include in this post this photo of an attempt to shanghai an Asian pirate wench! )

We knew we were in for an amusing time when we closed in on the restaurant and saw Meems out in the parking lot with her pirate flag hoisted high. That gave us a fabulous point around which to rally, both outside as well as in the theater later. Meems brought all sorts of extra pirate props to hand out, which worked well for several of us--including me! I'd managed to actually put a vaguely pirate-looking outfit together, complete with brown feathers in my hair, and even fairly color-coordinated as well (despite the fact that you could argue that pirates do not care for fashion). But Meems' gold and yellow scarf really topped me off well. For [livejournal.com profile] kingchiron, she provided a large stuffed alligator. We told her after dinner that it really needed to have a clock stuck in it so it could tick.

It was quite, quite giggle-inducing to see one little girl in the restaurant come up to us with her jaw visibly dropped. Two young teenage-looking girls came up to us and begged for pictures as well. Lots and lots of people asked if we'd seen the movie yet, and we kept calling out that we were about to go see it after dinner. Our favorite responses to this question were "Movie? What movie?" and "Arrrrr! We're here to see Cars!" ;) And over in the theater, we discovered we weren't the only ones in costume either, as we spied a fellow in a fine Captain Jack Sparrow costume. We all yelled "YARR!" at him with great enthusiasm. :D

And as for the movie, suffice to say that it was a breathless, giddy, fabulous summer flick, perfect for popcorn consumption, and the only reason I had no popcorn was because of filling me pirate belly with too much shrimp and rum over at the restaurant. ;) [livejournal.com profile] casirafics has observed quite rightly that if you stop to think about it rationally, you can find several criticisms to make about it--part of me for example found it a bit incoherent at the beginning, and once or twice it felt too long--but who wants to think about this flick rationally? It's too much fun to just go along for the ride!

YARR! Prepare to be boarded by SPOILERS! )

Avast, me hearties! Set sail here for a glimpse of the Dread Pirate Captain [livejournal.com profile] mamishka and her bloodthirsty crew of piratical scalawags as they pillage and plunder the Woodinville Red Robin and theater!

(My very first LJ Scrapbook Gallery, go me! Kudos go out to [livejournal.com profile] tiggymalvern for the shots--I've resized 'em for web viewing and upload to the LJ Scrapbook system. ^_^)
