So just the other morning as we were getting ready to head out the door for our walk to the bus stop, [livejournal.com profile] spazzkat said to me, "There's a hole in your shoe!" I looked, and sure enough, I had worn down significant portions of the soles on both of my shoes. On the left one, the sole had in fact begun to break through. I hadn't noticed that yet, though I had definitely noticed that I'd ripped the hell out of the inner lining of those shoes over the couple of years or so that I've had them at this point, and that their general comfort of wear had changed.

Today, therefore, I went out on a Shoe Quest. This proved much more complicated than it ought to have been. It should have been a nice one-bus jaunt downtown--the exact same bus Paul and I usually catch to get to work, in fact, and getting off the bus at the same place I was getting off when I was still on the Real contract. I'd gotten the old shoes at a local Walking Company store, but that one was at Northgate--a two-bus jaunt rather than a one-bus. So I wanted to go to the downtown one instead.

Except I had to call home to ask [livejournal.com profile] solarbird to give me the address of the place, since I'd forgotten exactly where it was. Then once I actually found it, the sales guy told me they didn't carry the Merrill line for women anymore and suggested I go over to REI instead. Which was fine, except that I'd never been to the downtown REI before and didn't know how to get there on foot, so I had to call home again and ask Paul to give me the address of the place. And while I eventually found it where Paul said it would be, I totally missed it the first time since the entrance is hidden behind this huge tree-shaded area that looks like a tiny park. It actually looks pretty cool, but it looks nothing like a store.

Once I got in there I was at least able to get shoes, though it took me a few times to get some that fit me, and I had to smile politely and tell three different people that no thanks, I didn't want an REI membership since I wasn't in there often enough to make it effective. (Read: I've never set foot in an REI before to buy anything.)

Round about a quarter to two I finally made it back to the bus stop to catch the 522 back to Lake Forest Park, intending to meet Dara for the Sunday market. She and Paul both came down to meet me, and that was all good and we had tasty BBQ sandwiches for lunch and bought tasty fresh things at the market.

But I totally spazzed on the other thing I had to get today, which was my Synthroid. And the really annoying part? I didn't remember that I had to pick it up until we got all the way back to the house. So I had to go out again, all the way back down to the shops from which we'd just returned, to get my prescription.

All in all I have logged 6.6 miles today, at least half of which has been in the new shoes. They damned well better be broken in by now.

Friday lunch and evening miles: 1.9
Saturday miles: 2.2
Sunday miles: 6.6
Miles out of Hobbiton: 1202.3
Miles out of Rivendell: 744.3
Miles out of Lothlórien: 282.3
Miles to Rauros Falls: 106.7
