After all the whiplash in the forecast yesterday, we're still holding steady with the expected Big Cold this weekend. And now it's finally actually snowing in Kenmore. Not a stunning amount yet, but it's heavier than a flurry. So it'll be interesting to see if this keeps up.

Have had a delightful and restful day. Went off to have a chiro appointment and a checkup with my doctor; I've had to have her prescribe me some Allegra on the grounds that I suspect I may be harboring a mild allergy to the cats. This isn't a serious allergy, mind you, but just enough itchy eyes and sneezing going on to make me wonder if something's up. And Fred and George have been the only real alteration to our environment over the last year or so.

It's weird. This is certainly not the first time I've lived with multiple cats, but it's been the first time I've lived with two that are as fluffy as the boys are. And since I like them, I'm hoping the Allegra will manage this issue.

So far this afternoon my eyes have been noticeably less itchy, so this so far seems to be a win.

And for extra bonus Win, [livejournal.com profile] mamishka came over to hang out just before she heads East for the winter. We MUSH-geeked a bit; I'm not MUSHing anymore but I still appreciate Meems telling me about her adventures on Star Wars MUSH. And we watched the pilot of Due South just because I've been highly enjoying that and Meems hadn't seen it before. She and [livejournal.com profile] spazzkat went at it in Rock Band, then.

Looking forward to a relaxing evening, too. [livejournal.com profile] solarbird should be home soon from her Norwescon concom, and there will be pizza. <3

Snoooooooooooow!

It's even going down here in Fremont, and has been for an hour. Nice strong sturdy stuff, too. Very fluffy. The dog is extremely excited. :D She's a big snow fan.

Hope it sticks around - if it had to snow in Seattle, Saturday/Sunday is pretty much the perfect time to do it.

Big Snow still happening here in the village of Cumberland (el. 155 m); the loggers will be calling this the start of the Long Sleep, I suppose.

And anent fluffiness, I note the quantity of Fred and George wot hath now been extracted from my plucky computer's air-filter.

On a completely side note, Bailando (LJ|Siestabear, my spouse) is okay despite getting clobbered by the New England ice storm. Still no electricity or landline. Moral of the story is: get and maintain backup sources of heat and power. (Which I am sure you would have, anyway).

I am seriously thinking of a genset, but the issue there is safe storage of fuel and oil. They are not simple to maintain, and hot-fuelling them is a necessary and risky chore.

The photovoltaics and floating battery system keep us up for about a day. No heat, no hot water, but we can boil a kettle off the system (although it is far wiser to just stash a nice thermos or two of hot water whenever the forecast calls for wind or ice). All we really want is to keep the writing system running, and maybe have a heating-pad for our feet, and then life is good.

Of course, the power usually goes out when it is bloody cold, like today.

Stay warm, neh?

oh, we have ++bad++ issues around gas stoves in wood-frame buildings in earthquake country :(

bottled butane, on the other hand, sure thing (and actually suppose that we should hunt up a butane wok-heater to go with our excessive supply of bottled gas). can do anything with a wok, after all.

enjoy said snow. watching it fall is okay. driving in it tomorrow at 0400 will suck, though. snerk.

oh, plus, of course, the seventy-leven zillion duvets all alike, that make a big difference on a cold night.

Bai says anent back home: power back maybe by Christmas. Maybe. Landline phone, who the heck knows? Cable likewise unknown. And another ice-storm forecast for tomorrow morning in mid-Mass.

Hah, we could use the Fir Transfer Protocol to just send you a door wreath, perhaps.

In fact, would you like one if we can arrange it? Will be wanting one for Fir-Garden front porch door, anyway. ^_^
