ATTN: MurkMUSH users
Jan. 30th, 2008 03:23 pmThose of you who were logged in this afternoon probably noticed that the MUSH fell over unexpectedly. This is due to the server it lives on unexpectedly running out of space. I figured out why and have fixed that problem, but now I'm having issues getting the MUSH restarted since the crash appears to have confused the hell out of the database.
Don't have an ETA on when we'll be back up yet as I'm at work and work is nuts, but watch this space for further details.
For those of you who are or who have been MUSH administrators, if you know the proper magic words to utter to make a database un-confuse itself after a game crash due to the disk filling up, please to sing out. Thanks!
ETA 4:18pm: And we're back. As per
solarbird's wise council I pulled the database files out of our last system backup and just started the MUSH again with no problems. I did have to roll us back to earlier this month, since that was our last backup, but we shouldn't have lost anything significant.

Date: 2008-01-31 04:51 am (UTC)Hanging out here with high-class brains, yes, but there's something to be said for real-time interaction (at least line-by-line, like IM only in a group)... and the other thing is, in a MUSH, you can throw somebody in the hot tub if the puns get too bad. Bin There, Dun That. :)

Date: 2008-01-31 04:59 am (UTC)I sing the praises of a freshly-laundered flannel nightie (Yule gift from the belovedest Siestabear), which still holds its warmth from the spin-drying machine. There is no better treat on a cold night in which the sleet splatters against the windows.

Date: 2008-01-31 04:48 am (UTC)And while MUDs have historically been more directly focused on hardcore gameplay, MUSHes have by contrast been either social (such as mine) or RP-oriented (such as the various MUSHes I have RPed on over the years), based on a given fandom or sometimes original themes.

Date: 2008-01-31 05:01 am (UTC)Are these things computationally demanding on local terminals as well as the server, or is it all pushed out by the server?
