Looks like we're due for a big ol' heatwave in the middle of this week. Kenmore's looking at an expected high of 92, Seattle 96. Here's the warning text, yoinked off of weather.com:

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN SEATTLE HAS ISSUED AN EXCESSIVE HEAT WATCH...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM TUESDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH WEDNESDAY EVENING.

TEMPERATURES WILL BE 15 TO 20 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL WITH DAYTIME HIGHS REACHING INTO THE 90S ACROSS THE TACOMA...SEATTLE AND EVERETT AREAS. WEDNESDAY WILL BE THE WARMEST OF THE TWO DAYS WITH HIGHS IN THE MID TO UPPER 90S POSSIBLE.

AN EXCESSIVE HEAT WATCH MEANS THAT A PROLONGED PERIOD OF HOT TEMPERATURES IS EXPECTED. THE COMBINATION OF HOT TEMPERATURES AND HIGH HUMIDITY WILL COMBINE TO CREATE A DANGEROUS SITUATION IN WHICH HEAT ILLNESSES ARE POSSIBLE. STAY IN AN AIR CONDITIONED ROOM IF POSSIBLE OR OBTAIN AN APPROPRIATE NUMBER OF FANS TO HELP CIRCULATE THE AIR. Yep, that's a whole pile of Way Too Damned Hot right there. I mean, geez, I left Kentucky to avoid weather like this. Well, that, and Microsoft offered me a job. But the point remains! ;)

i've also found that lying in a hammock that's shaded is much cooler than lying on a solid object. don't know if that's an option for you...

and seriously, those paper-like fans from Uwajymia (sp???) are really, really awesome for cooling off sweaty selves. And they're cheap.

and i, i will enjoy the heat for all of you. since y'all enjoy the cold for me in the winter. 'kay?

Eh, the Murk's not half bad at night, even in a heat wave, since we can throw open all the windows. And we do have fans. The evil part will be getting home from work that day, as well as going outside the nice cool interior of the Times when I want some lunch.

And for the record, I'm not an enemy of warmth in general. These last few days, for example? Glorious. I would be a happy camper if we held steady on what we've had the last few days until the next seasonal shift. :)

Oh, yeah. I'm just one who loves it really warm, and so I figure if you enjoy the cold, we both enjoy the mild, and I enjoy the hot, we're balancing each other out. ;)

Glad to hear your place is livable when it's hot.

For the outside part, the japanese fans--even though I love the heat, I sweat miserably, and they really do help.

*grin* Yay for balance!

Yeah, the Murk is very open and airy and spacious, and with all the white walls, it tends to be not half bad as long as we throw open the windows to allow for air to move around. And we have several fans, including ceiling fans. The downstairs part where spazzkat's space is tends to remain very cool, too, as does the back guest room, one of the bits that gets the least sunlight.

I've seen those lovely little Japanese fans, yeah.

I figure I'll be more or less okay if I dress light and drink lots of water, and don't go too fast on the walk home from work. Because oof.

yes. warm weather like this calls for a little more "strolling" and a little less "plowing". :)

And you might want to make sure you're getting enough salt; when it's really hot and I sweat a lot, I tend to drink a bit of Gatorade, as it helps.

ew. blech. icky. wish I could convince darthfrog to put a couple of these attic fans (http://www.gaiam.com/retail/product/14-0271) in, but he's convinced they'd leak during the 8 months of year we don't need them. We're going to the beach on Wednesday.

By a large body of water sounds like an excellent place to be in temperatures like these. Have fun. :)

The Murk itself won't be too bad in these temperatures; one of the advantages of having a large and airy house with a lot of white is that we can throw open the windows and things are generally kind of okay. The evil part will be getting home from work.
