Ich denke heute daß ich werde ein Eintrag auf Deutsch schreiben. Die von Ihnen auf meiner Freundesliste die Deutsch sprechen, beheben mich bitte, wenn ich etwas falsch übersetzen!

Zuallerest Willkommen zu raise_a_jar, die ich sehe an meinem Journal jetzt späht.

Zweitens für die von Ihnen, das interessiert werden konnte, habe ich ein Gmailkonto jetzt, die gleiche Benutzername wie auf Livejournal. Ich bekam es meist weil janne wollte mit mir auf Google Talk sprechen, und ich bin für IM auf diesem System vorhanden, sobald ich mein Trillian zu Pro in einige mehr Wochen aufrüsten. Ich halte auch das Email als Aushilfsemail, obwohl ich plane nicht es weitgehend zu verwenden.

Gestern mußte ich Papiere für meinem neuen Vertragsjob an Real unterzeichnen, und der ging glatt genug. Ich ließ die Botengänge auf dem Weisenhaus laufen und kaufte ein Paar nach mehr Bücher, die ich suchte: Eucalyptus von Murray Bail und Prospero's Children von Jan Siegel.

Ich ging zum Polyclinic heute, meine Schilddrüseniveaus zu erhalten wieder geprüft, auf meine folgende Verabredung mit Dr. Marshall. Das ging glatt. Ich ging eine gute Spitze nach und von den Busanschlägen auf der Weise und beendete Crescent City Rhapsody von Kathleen Ann Goonan außerdem. (Welches ich mochte, viel besser als Mississippi Blues; mehr auf diesem in einer anderen Eintrag.

Today I think I will write a journal entry in German. Those of you on my Friends list who speak the language, please correct me if you see me translate something incorrectly!

First and foremost, welcome to raise_a_jar, who I see is peeking at my journal now.

Second, for those of you who might be interested, I have a gmail account now, same ID as on Livejournal. I got it mostly because janne wanted to be able to talk to me on Google Talk, and I'll be available for IM on that system as soon as I upgrade my Trillian install to Pro in a few more weeks. I'll also keep the email as a backup email address, though I don't plan to use it extensively yet.

Yesterday I had to go sign papers for my new contract job at Real, and that went smoothly enough. I ran errands on the way home and picked up a couple more books I was looking for: Eucalyptus by Murray Bail, and Prospero's Children by Jan Siegel.

I ventured out today to go to the Polyclinic and get my thyroid levels tested again, since I needed to get another check on that prior to my upcoming next appointment with Dr. Marshall. That went smoothly. I got in a good bit of walking to and from the bus stops on the way, and read through the rest of Kathleen Ann Goonan's Crescent City Rhapsody as well. (Which I liked, way better than Mississippi Blues; more on this in another post.)


(Oof. I think I'm done translating this post now. My brain is full. Switching back to just English...)

When I got home I took a stab at another paragraph of the German translation of Mariana as well, and was pleased to figure out a few things by the context of the surrounding words--such as the difference between verfahren and verführen, which threw me a bit until I figured out that verfuhren was the past tense of verfahren.

Also, I hope it isn't cheating to fire the paragraph through a translation engine first to get preliminary results, and then to winnow out the mistakes from there. It certainly cut down on my translation time, anyway!

Tomorrow solarbird and I will go to get our hair done at a hair salon kathrynt recommended, which ought to be fun. And Thursday: my first day of WORK!

wow.. it's been a long time since I've tried to translate german!

All I got out of the first paragraph was "I think today ... german writing. Something friends list speaking german.. something something"

*giggle* It took me a while to do even the part of this post I translated. And that was with liberal usage of both Google's translation engine (which doesn't seem half bad, at least for German) and my own German dictionary. I had to look up practically everything.

I <3 google talk. No ads or swirly, colorful things or fancy emoticons or other distractions, and it discreetely keeps an eye on my email, too :)
The german is looking very good, better than I could write these days. Just remember to shove anything vaguely resembling a verb to the end of the sentence. (I think it's 'auf Deutsch schreiben werde' for instance... maybe I'll have another look when all my braincells are back in business :-))
And yegods, it's hard to write about german in english, especially since I could only think of norwegian terms for the grammar right now.

I'd download the client, except I'm generally happy with Trillian, and it lets me talk to a whole bunch of IM systems at once. I just don't like having to run multiple IM clients. :)

And heh, I can imagine that writing about German would be tough for you! silme711 has given me useful tips elsewhere on the thread, I still need to look at what she wrote to see if I can spot all the differences.

It's good, really, but something made me grin: An Anschlag as you wrote it in Busanschlag is an assault. Bus stop is simply Haltestelle. :D

German is so difficult. Sometimes even I don't get it.

These are exactly the kinds of corrections I need, thank you very much!

A lot of what I did with this was feeding my English text through Google's translation engine (which seems to be pretty good), and then polishing up places where it was clear to me that it had screwed up. Or where it didn't know what to do with a word. Busanschlag is its fault--but then, I didn't know any better either! ;)

I'll compare your text with mine and see if I can spot the differences!

That's so odd! I've gotten a gmail account today as well - and the acc name is in German! :) I haven't touched that language in years and the last time I spoke it anywhere near understanding was when I was 7 years old. :)

Now, I'm just happy if I can speak English well enough! LOL

I figure the Gmail account will be useful in case murkworks.net falls completely off the net for some reason. I actually have a secondary email address besides this one, but I'm not entirely sure I'll stay with that provider much longer, so it'll be good to have something else to use as a backup.

Funny about the German, too! Hee!

Wow...pretty good! A few very minor syntactical issues...but a definate A minus!!

By the way, Bus stop is Haltestelle. That was the most obvious.

silme711 caught the thing about "bus stop", yeah. She's a native German speaker, so that leapt out at her!

I still need to go through her version of my German in this post and see if I can spot the places she corrected. That way I can help teach myself better, I think.
