Quiet Thursday and icon musings

Quiet morning so far; there are no builds to test yet. Hopefully we should have a quiet day, as we're only on tap to test two builds today, and a total of 15 machines. It's even vaguely possible that if we get those builds early enough and get them done fast enough, we could leave early--but I don't know if that's going to happen or not. It might. Monday, after I left early for my blood draw, a couple other folks on the team scrammed early as well because there was just nothing to test. At this point I've already racked up more than 40 hours this week, so anything I work today is bonus. (Though this'll be one of the few times I'll actually be vaguely peevish if I don't get in a full day's worth of work today, because after the Work Weekend of Hell, I damn well want that extra time on my paycheck.) Oh well. If it stays quiet, anyway, I can try to write and/or work on backlogged email and LJ comments.

Or think about continued overhaul of my icons. I need a few more specific ones, I think, to be properly reflective not only of my various fandoms, but of the various things I tend to post about. I do believe I need:

• An Elfquest icon, probably featuring Strongbow. Right now the best icon-worthy shot of him I can think of anywhere in all of EQ is when he's about to plug Winnowill in Book Three, which would be a good icon for any post of mine where I'm cranky.
  
• A Starbuck icon from BSG. There is so much Kara goodness all throughout that show that it's hard to say exactly which bits would give me the icon I want. Perhaps I shall have to wander through bsg_women and look at the plethora of icon posts there and see if anything leaps out for attention. (Though I'm kind of grooving on the screencap I saw from the most recent episode a couple episodes back, where Helo and Starbuck are lifting up the gate to get into her apartment building, and they're all photogenically backlit by the yellow ambient light of Caprica.)
  
• As previously mentioned, Jack Aubrey, writing, from Master and Commander. This would be either out of the scene where he's writing his letter to Sophia, just before the crewmen come in with the model of the Acheron, or else from the scene where he's out on the deck and Killick brings him the coffee. Icon for writing posts.
  
• A Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea icon would be fabulous, but difficult, since the series is not yet released to DVD. Captain Crane at the periscope leaps immediately to mind. Probably a good icon for geeky investigatory kinds of posts.
  
• A good Han Solo or Indiana Jones icon would rock, for the Harrison Ford fandom. Han doing his rebel yell as the Falcon swoops in to attack Vader's TIE fighter at the end of A New Hope would work. And any Indy icon would have to come right out of Raiders... probably either Indy on the verandah at Sallah's looking all windblown and gorgeous, or perhaps out of the smooch scene with Marion, where he's looking all tuckered out.
  
• Something Invader Zim, probably (as per spazzkat's brilliant suggestion) the bit from "Bestest Friends" where Zim closes in on the reject children with the beaver in one hand and the toy taxi in the other. Likely caption, "And now, the final test". ;) Work icon.
  
• A good Cort icon from The Quick and the Dead, to properly reflect my Russell fandom.
  
• Something from The Lord of the Rings, though I'm not sure exactly what yet. Possibly something involving Galadriel or Eowyn!
  

And speaking of Eowyn, or at least her challenge:

well, it all depends on how long you have knowed the dear elf-maid... I think my first contact was somewhere around October of '91 (if Dara has access to the old digests, it was somewhere around 355)... but, we'll let our DLEM be the final judge :-p

Hrmm. HRMRmRMm. I got my episodes mixed up. I'm not thinking of the latest BSG for what I had in mind, but rather, the one before, I think.

I'm not sure yet exactly what I want for a Kara icon, though, so I need to think on it a bit longer. Thanks for thinking of me, though! :)

I can't tell offhand if that's from Han blowing away Vader, or from the scene earlier where he and Luke are manning the Falcon's guns during their escape from the Death Star... but regardless, it is Exactly Right, and thank you very much. ^_^

I have all the original Starblaze Donning GNs on hand (don't suppose you need a copy of them?) but I'm a bit reluctant to scan them because I'm not sure it could be accomplished without buggering the spines. I'll see, though.

Dara and I both have copies of the original Starblaze/Donnings, so we're good! But if you're trying to get rid of yours, I'm sure you could sell them on eBay. ;)

But I'm with you on the scanning thing. I wouldn't want to break mine either. I might have to think about scanning something out of my later individual issues, which I still have packed away somewhere.

Have you noticed my Strongbow icon? Not sure if it's what you're looking for, but this is one of my favourite shots of him -- perhaps because it's him, yet so unlike his usual brooding self. :D

I have indeed noticed that icon of yours, and you're right, it's a beautiful shot of him!

I'm not quite sure what I want in a Strongbow icon yet. What I want out of my icons needs to be twofold: reflective of my various fandoms and reflective of the kinds of things I tend to post about. For example, the Eowyn icon I just made is very likely going to be used about posts extolling the virtues of solarbird. ^_^ As I make more, I'll get a better idea of what the archer will best represent in my posts!

Ahhh... Well another really good shot of him (IMO) and one that's a bit more versatile might be the one from Dreamtime -- the two-page spread dreamy version of him and Moonshade ... you know the one I mean? :D

It's been a while since I looked at it--I'll have to dig up my various issues, when I go on my hunt for the perfect Strongbow picture!

That'll probably have to wait till after my contract ends, though. :)
