In honor of solarbird

My beloved and I have two anniversaries, and today is our summer one, so this post is in honor of the 14 and a half years that solarbird and I have been together as a lifemated couple.

It's been an exciting, challenging, emotional, enriching, wonderful time. It's been the best part of my life. It's led me in directions I never dreamed I would go, and made me glad I went.

It's given me Dara, the best thing I've ever been given, hands down, ever.

I love you, babe. Let's have 14 more fabulous years.

Heh! Good point, about the 15th! ^_^

I could not cook well if you paid me. In fact, solarbird banished me from the kitchen. ;) I'm sure I could probably learn it if I took the requisite time, but it's one of those things that I have never taken instinctively well to--possibly because it's always seemed to me to require so much time that I'd rather be spending doing something else, e.g., writing!

But I totally agree that there's something grand about cooking a meal at home on a big special occasion. The big time of the year around the Murkworks for that is Thanksgiving!

I'm convinced there are two kinds of geeks. Them as cook somewhere between well and most excellently (I'm no gourmet, but I can get my share of compliments), and them as can't do it at all. I have yet to find a mediocre geek cook.

Don't worry, you're not alone in the latter class; my good friend kendaer claims he burns water.... :)

But, yes, Turkey Day is definitely much with the cooking-fu.

*snicker* I'm not quite so incompetent that I burn water, it's just that trying to work my way through any cooking that's terribly complicated just makes my head kind of hurt. :) Some of the more esoteric terminology baffles me as well.

Sometimes it's the simple stuff that tastes best. Comfort food. :) And you're not alone with the esoterica... if I can't pronounce it, I'm not likely to eat it. :)

Mmmm, comfort food! And hey, I can happily eat stuff I can't pronounce--some varieties of sushi come to mind--but cooking? Another story.
