Last night's insomnia report: not a damn wink between 11:30pm and 5am or so, till I finally got up, staggered downstairs, and tried to sleep in the chair in the living room where I'd had my last decent nap. No dice there, either, even with the calming incentive of a purring cat. Staggered back upstairs. Had congestion problems, and between that and [livejournal.com profile] solarbird's suggestion that I try a cold medicine demonstrated to knock me the hell out, I took a dose of Nyquil.

Fell over on the couch for a couple of hours. Seemed to actually fall asleep, though I think I've milked that dose of Nyquil for all the good I'm going to get out of it.

Called my doctor. I have an appointment to see her tomorrow. And I feel guilty about it, but I don't think I should try to work in this state. My brain is fried; I have sporadic bursts of cohesiveness shot through with huge bouts of lag time as I struggle to process stuff. Given that the entire point of my team is to get accurate testing results out in a swift and timely fashion, and given that I don't trust myself to be either swift or accurate right now... well.

Gods, I'm tired of this.

Good on you for taking decisive action. Hope the doc can figure it out. Sleeplessness sucks.

*BIG HUGS* I think seeing your doctor is a good idea. This is so sudden and so inexplicable - maybe there's something physical reason why you're suddenly having so much trouble. I hope the doctor finds the reason and that it's not dangerous to you and easy to fix!

I'm telling you, ditch the caffeine. All of it. You'll have headache for a couple days, but your body will re-regulate itself. Caffeine is a very powerful stimulant, it takes a couple hours to even reach a peak in your system.

OK well, just see what your doc says. But it's very standard with insomnia for a doctor to prescribe an end to all caffeine intake (and obviously any other stimulants, but I'm guessing you aren't into those. :)

{{{{hugs}}}} Sorry you're still having problems sleeping... I know, it sucks... I think I had 4 hours last night, about 15mins between taking [livejournal.com profile] kitskat to class and leaving for work, and about 20 mins on my lunch break at work (which caused me to overshoot my breaktime by 2 minutes)... tomorrow (today) is my day off.. thinking of rescheduling my chiro appt for next weds, and sleeping all day (if I can)...

Sleep,and the lack thereof..

You mentioned congestion..Do you have sinus problems? That might be part of your troubles if you do. Chemical sleep is OK once in a great while, but I'm not too keen on such things. Hope all turns out well for you. Scott
