Battlestar Galactica: Litmus

Well, wasn't THAT interesting. Lots and lots of mileage here that mirrors current real-life political climates, what with that suicide bomber sneaking onto the Galactica... and lots of interesting little points for speculation.
Like the bomber dude--where HAS that guy been hiding in the fleet? I can buy different copies of the same Cylon model lurking on different ships and never getting noticed, just because nobody has any real reason to pay attention to faces, just the number of warm bodies on board each ship. Or at least, nobody's had any reason to pay attention to faces up till now. ;) I suspect that we'll be getting a lot closer attention paid to specific faces now, though!
Also very interesting to see the illicit romance between Boomer and the Chief coming up in the context of the tribunal--and how different characters were reacting to it: the deck crew being all about supporting the Chief vs. Adama being willing to turn a blind eye vs. the Sergeant being ready to crucify the Chief. Adama's reaction is totally understandable to me, especially now that I've just re-watched the initial miniseries and saw his taking the President's statement about how if humanity is going to survive as a species, they have to start making babies RIGHT NOW to heart. I can see the guy thinking, 'Okay, yeah, fine, regulations say this isn't supposed to happen, but you know what? Fuck it. We need babies.'
Dara and I are wondering, though, whether the Sergeant isn't herself another Cylon agent. She was being awfully hard-assed about the illicit romance angle, and especially when she called Adama in for questioning. This would seem to be inline with how Newscaster Cylon, back in the miniseries, was very specifically trying to speak up for all the wrong options at all the wrong times. On the other hand, she may just be a raving bitch. It's hard to tell! And I like that--since all the characters are going to be looking at each other wondering who the Cylons are, it's good to get the viewers in that same state of uncertainty. ;)
It was also very interesting to see the dichotomy between Boomer-Cylon-on-Caprica and Boomer-on-Galactica, and the specific differences in their behavior. The former seems to behave a lot more coldly, like Evil-Blonde-Bombshell-Cylon, and seems to consciously know what's going on in the conspiracy to trap Helo. (Side note: Awww MAN, I'm starting to feel for Helo...) Boomer-on-Galactica, on the other hand, is clearly not entirely conscious of what's going on--or if she is, she's fighting it on some level. In "Water", we saw her actively struggling with herself to vocalize seeing a positive water reading on her scanner, and to disarm the detonator on her chair. But in her last scene with the Chief in this episode, some of her Cylon self seemed to be leaking out; she got really cold, really selfish, with that line about how she couldn't believe that he would just turn his back on their relationship and with how she completely dodged his question about whether she left the hatch open.
Dara and I are beginning to wonder if she's going to pull a Captain Scarlet--if her imposed "human" personality is actually going to overthrow her Cylon programming, and if she'll defect to supporting the humans. That would be NICE.
