On the fate of Dusk

So, Flashfire has just issued his announcement that he's retiring from the game, and he's giving Dara and me back the keys to Dusk. Which puts forth the interesting question of what to do with her, IC.

Several of the former Willowholters, including both of Dusk's parents, have headed south onto Sunholt. But I am not certain if Dusk is in a position to know where they went, or when she was last in play IC. If she stopped by Lostholt she could certainly get the news that Rillwhisper led Trollkiller, Woodhawk, and Dawn on a mission south to find Wayfound some turns of the seasons ago. But nobody at Lostholt, including Strongbow, knows the actual route that they took.

And of course, there'd also be the question of whether Dusk would be inclined to go looking for them. She's certainly seemed to be in a wandering mode for a while--but if she went south, she'd also be removing herself from the vicinity of Midnight at Ravenholt. (I presume he's still there, even though the tribe is pretty much defunct.) She may be relieved, though, to be away from Tsoran. ;)

For a little while, she was around Blue Mountain but she didn't get the sense she was very welcome there so she left. Since then, there was little to nothing I did with her. So, it's pretty much an open book where y'all want to have her go.

About when, roughly speaking, was she last roleplayed?

Boy..it must've been a few months and she was around Raft at the time, but before that the Blue Mountain visit was a good year ago.

In other words, she's been in play long after Rill and the others went to Sunholt. Got it. :)

A year or so fits with my memories of when Dusk was around the Mountain, indeed. And Midnight will be wherever Leaffall and Sunhigh are, so with Leaffall being the last known chief of Ravenholt(?) that's where he'll be :)

*nodnod* So I guess the interesting question might be whether we want to go ahead and retire Dusk officially and send her south, or what. (I like sending all ex-Willowholters south as a general principle, but I'm dubious that Dusk would actually have any reason to know to go that way. :) )

Yeah, but this is a MUSH story situation we're talking about rather than a pure writing situation. And she's not my character. I could invent reasons for her to head south, but ultimately, the question would be whether she would want to--or whether she'd be happy wandering around the northern continent. Those of y'all who created/played Dusk are in a better position to answer that than I am. :)

In that case...

I think Dusk always liked being around her extended family and after getting her fill of wandering and seeing this and that, she hits a point where she's ready to settle down with them. So, as long as there's a way for her to find out about it, she can get to 'em.

The only elf on Iceholt who knows the actual route that Wayfound followed down to Vrae would be Djhala--and it's anybody's guess whether Dusk would be in a position to find that out. Nobody at Lostholt knows the exact route; they just know "Rillwhisper went south to look for her cub". This is because Rillwhisper didn't know the exact route. She just bullheadedly decided to head south until she either found Wayfound and Vrae, or couldn't go south any farther. :)

Dusk could probably do that, but I expect it would take her a very long time.
