Jack Chalker is in the ICU with kidney failure, apparently doing very badly. :( The Norwescon con committee is going to have a card signing at its meeting on Saturday, says solarbird, and hopefully it'll be a "get well soon" and not a condolences message for Eva Chalker.

Crap. :( I have honestly read very little of Chalker's work--just one book that I vaguely recall looking at some time ago, Hart's Hope--but I've seen enough of his impact on SF fandom to feel this keenly. Hell, Dara interviewed him once.

And this would suck for anybody, really. :( I feel for the poor guy and his family as well.

yeah way crappy. and his older son's blog talks about how they are being fuxx0red by their insurance company on some stuff. gods, it seems every time i turn around i hear about yet another american being ruined by medical bills. thank gods i live in Canada.

and as far as i can see from her own site, it's Eva Whitley, not Eva Chalker. though after 27 years and under current circumstances I doubt she'd be prickly about The Name Thing.
