Murkworks.net outage

As of some time this morning, murkworks.net has dropped off the face of the Net. solarbird informs me that it's Verizon's fault, so far as our parent ISP, Northwest Link, is concerned. We don't know yet what happened, nor do we have an ETA on when we'll be back up. But if you try to access stuff on murkworks.net, this'll be why it's not working right now. Affected resources include pretty much everything we host: web pages, mailing lists, DNS for various and sundry domain names, etc.

More as we have it! In the meantime, if you need to wing me a mail, you can do so at my backup address of annako at drizzle dot com.

That certainly explains the telnet connection suddenly dropping and my LJ background going black!

Did you already have the telnet connection open and live, or did you just try to connect and not make it through? I think we've been down longer than 20-30 minutes--when I got to work around 9:10 or so, I couldn't get through then, either.

It's probably been closer to an hour now, yeah.

I had a connection open and got a 'dropped' message, then it wouldn't reconnect. Next time I reloaded my friends page, the background didn't load.

Sounds like we might have gone belly-up just before I got to work, then. Hrmmm.

We've had a cold snap up here--I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it, but there was a lot of frost on the grass, our steps, and the streets in my neighborhood when I left. And a coworker has told me that another person on our team was in a pretty serious accident due to icy roads in Issaquah on her way in.

As for the connection, it'll be up when it's up. Not going to stress about it here. :-) I just telnet in through murkworks.net when I'm at work.

I'm informed that my coworker is okay, though her car is totalled. :(

And yeah, I'm not terribly vexed; situations such as these are precisely why I maintain a backup account on drizzle.com. ;) Though I do reserve the right to find Verizon annoying on general principle!

I do remember y'all being much vexed over the crapfest that went on just getting things installed in the new digs. I know it's not on the same scale with me, but so far Speakeasy's been very good.

Well, there's a small difference here--Verizon is not actually our ISP. They're our telephone company. Our ISP, Northwest Link, has been usually reliable. :)

This is not to say that Verizon went out of its way to make it AS DIFFICULT AS POSSIBLE for us to go through a third party for our DSL... ahem. Not that I'm still bitter, or anything.

Just out of curiousity, why is the time on all the responses between 1 and 3 in the morning? Is it just me? You can't really be having a conversation about this outage eight hours before it occurred.

This is because comments on LJ are timestamped by the server the journal lives on, rather than the time of the poster. This is what I get for my journal living on a server that far away. ;)

Not surprised to hear burninghand.org is down, either!

Maybe not outrage, but certainly vexation. ;) llachglin says burninghand.org is down, too--so clearly it's all over the 425 area code. Though whatever happened hasn't taken out our landline--I was able to call solarbird this morning.
