For the Buffy fans

So there I was wandering around LJ last night, and I happened across a post over on bad_rpers_suck by someone who mentioned their game which was set in the Buffy universe, with all the same familiar characters, except that everyone was born 50 years earlier and their version of the storyline was set in 1941 Sunnydale. I thought that sounded kind of cool, and it led me to speculate on what would have been different if this had been the scenario with the actual show.

Buffy in a pointy bra, Xander and Willow inevitably together, Angel never woulda lost his soul because they couldn't have been allowed to have sex, and I see a lot more musical episodes than just OMWF...:)

And "not allowed to have sex" would have gotten in Buffy and Angel's way WHY? ;) If we assume that all the canon characters will have the same basic fundamental personalities and traits, we certainly know that Buffy will quite happily circumvent any rules laid down upon her to do what she thinks is right. (Witness all the times we see her blatantly sneaking out of the house even when Joyce grounds her.)

Now, I could certainly see Buffy still struggling with the whole 'bad girl' reputation--because that would still be in place--and wanting to win her mother's approval and respect. She'd very likely angst a LOT MORE about whether to actually have sex with Angel in the first place. But do I think she would choose not to? Not necessarily.

I could easily see a scenario where Angel and Buffy somehow come up with a way to be married, even in private, which would be amusing to arrange to begin with--because who the hell would perform the ceremony? That would be one way of getting around the 'no sex' stricture.

And I could also easily see a scenario where Buffy does in fact go ahead and decide to have sex with Angel--and then not only does she have to deal with his losing his soul, but she ALSO has to deal with her friends and mother and her Watcher going absolutely ballistic when they find out that the reason this soulless vampire is once more on the loose is because Buffy got 'loose' with her morals. It'd be a MUCH bigger deal.

But hey, this is Buffy we're talking about. Angst drives the vast majority of the plots. ;D

If you're talking about what you could put on TV in 1950s America, it's vitally important. If you're just talking about how you'd play it as a game, that's different. :)

Oh, I'm not talking about what goes on 1950's TV. :) I'm just talking about how the story would be told differently now if this was the scenario, whether it be on TV or in a gaming adventure. :)

I'm with you on the pointy bra and the high likelihood of Xander and Willow being together, though. ;)

And Cordelia, unsurprisingly, is VERY LITTLE changed!

I go in there as various characters from "Charmed" and start zotting people. warcow just *hates* "Charmed".

Her birthday is this weekend... I was considering giving her the DVD set of the first season of "Charmed", but figured she'd cram it up my butt. So, she gets a refrigerator magnet instead. ;)

Xander'd actually probably enlist in the army. Pretty much everyone who wasn't medically prevented from going went, and he was an eager young lad. I can see he and Willow getting a quickie wedding just before he ships out.

And of course the Bronze would have a big band and Oz probably wouldn't play the guitar...Maybe lead saxophone or piano/singing. Hmm.

We were thinking that Giles would have fought in WWI, and very possibly have been mentally scarred by it. That would have replaced his gangland days as "Ripper", and possibly been his impetus to be knocked out of crime.

I can see him emigrating in a bitter post-war funk to the States, possibly before the Depression, and by the time 1941 rolls around the Watchers have to lean on him to remind him of his duty when Buffy is Chosen.

And OH YEAH, a big band at the Bronze. :D NEAT touch! And I could TOTALLY see Oz playing the saxophone.
