solarbird and I are going offline tomorrow, folks, to go and visit
wildshadowstar and all my other family members in Kentucky--along with
starfallz and
gazerwolf and
starsongky and many other of our Lexington-based friends. So if y'all have anything you'd like to say to me before Christmas, better say it now, as my chances of having Net access are slim to none. My brother, with whom we will be staying, not only has no cable modem or DSL, he has no land line either (he and his wife have been exclusively using cell phones for some time now). So we won't even be able to use the dialup access to my backup account. And we won't be back until the 29th.
But if you don't hear from me before then, happy holidays to the entire lot of you, adjusted to suit whatever form of holiday you choose to celebrate at this time of the year. ^_^ To all of you all who have sent us cards thus far, kind thanks! (
eveshka, yours arrived this very day, in fact!) As I type this, Dara is working on our Solstice cards. Which are late, we know. Some of you may not get them until January. But don't think of them as unbelievably late--think of them as incredibly early for next year!
Also, thank-yous in advance to
tinlail and
lyricae who have brought us presents, and to
lyricae and
mamishka who have kindly consented to look after our pets. And heal-up wishes to
mamishka, whose recently damaged toe is keeping her off her feet and who therefore may have to hand off the kitty-and-budgie-tending duties to Cheryl.
Dara and I are keeping Longest Night tonight, along with
risu. It's very weird to do this without an actual fireplace; Longest Night is just not the same when your fire can be turned on and off with the flick of a switch. Stupid gas fireplaces. Also, it is going to be interesting to see if I can stay awake on minimal caffeine; I've had but a single can of diet Dew today, and I could feel it sizzling through my system as I sipped it over the space of a couple of hours. And that's after only a week of severely reduced caffeine intake. I'm hoping to go without caffeine as long as I can tonight, and then to have only as much as I need to keep awake until we have to go to the airport tomorrow morning.
Till then, maybe we'll watch amusing things on TV. Maybe I'll edit Chapter 10 some more. Maybe I'll just play a whole lot of Nethack.
But mostly, I'll be very happy for the beginning of a vacation. Happy holidays, everybody!
