In deference to the occasion, a Happy Thanksgiving to all U.S. residents listening in out there. Also in deference to the occasion, here now are twenty things for which I am thankful this year:

1. My beloved [livejournal.com profile] solarbird.
2. The chance to go visit my family this December and see my brother's two youngest children for the first time, not to mention him and his wife and the rest of his children, and the rest of my family!
3. The wit and creativity of [livejournal.com profile] risu in her Hitherby posts.
4. The guerilla humor of [livejournal.com profile] spazzkat, which hits me upside the head with Funny and then dashes away before I know what's hit me. ;)
5. Sharing media goodness with [livejournal.com profile] mamishka, her getting mural jobs, and her still-unchallenged position as Queen of MUSH Characters Best Able to Make Anna Swoon.
6. My cat's companionable moods, in which she cuddles up beside me and purrs seven ways from Sunday.
7. My instruments.
8. The music of Great Big Sea, which inspires me to pick up those instruments, and sing at the top of my lungs.
9. The music of Elvis Presley, the first music to capture my heart.
10. A job that will be holding out at least until April.
11. A team at Microsoft that likes my work well enough to ask me back at least once, and who will hopefully do so again.
12. Work that interests me and challenges me while giving me the opportunity to occasionally think about my writing.
13. Cool coworkers with whom I get along well.
14. A quiet neighborhood to live in.
15. The view of Lake Washington you get when you come around the corner from our cul-de-sac out onto the cross street.
16. Whatever portion of the combination of new shoes, new coat, and new purse that is making my cranky back less cranky.
17. The awakening of my muse in the last few years, and enough ideas for novels to keep me writing for years to come.
18. [livejournal.com profile] mizkit for inspiring me to actually start writing, to do Nanowrimo last year, and to go to Writer's Weekend.
19. Working Internet, which allows me to communicate with dozens of interesting people all over the world.
20. Computing devices, which allow me to write novels a lot faster than I would if I had to write them longhand or use a typewriter. I have done both. Computers are way cooler.

Friends-they mean more to me than family right now, because my family tends to view anyone who hasn't drank/smoked up all their money as a free money service(this has been the source of a *lot*of friction..I don't feel I "owe" anything to family who intentionally do stupid things with their money and life).
That I haven't gone down the same path most of my family did-booze,cancer stix,drugs..the toll these things take have become very obvious on assorted family who used them.
That I am in quite good health, with only minor-very minor-problems..(a vitamin regimen helped a lot!) I ride my bike an average of 8 miles a day(to work,mostly)-doesn't really seem that far.
The job I have is boring, but I get along with most of my coworkers, and those I don't aren't in the same building.
That I live in a country where I can change jobs and location if I want, or start my own business(I plan to do this..Kentucky is a easy state to start a business in,really.)
Computers are wonderful tools,as is the internet-for me, it's chasing down hard to find parts or items. Done now in minutes, instead of weeks as it would in the past.
That I live in Kentucky..all told, it's a good state to live in. Are you coming to Kentucky around Dec. 19th? Is Dara? If so, don't miss the Lenoue/Lexfa Christmas party..Scott

I've been away from my computer for several reasons..one of which is replacing some fifty year old twisted-pair phone lines.
That,and some "protoyping" of a variety of things(the film-can water-battery clock..materials: Film cans,roofing nails,pre-1980 pennies,miniature alligator clips,cheap clock from Dollar Zone..that,and a solar-capacitor version). Where will you be staying? Scott....
