Random Wednesday morning goodness

+0: Greetings, lokifrost, and welcome to the People Who Are Watching My Journal club. :)

+1: Okay, brain, I get the hint. I think after two nights running of dreaming about Jack Aubrey (as portrayed by the lovely and talented Mr. Crowe), yeah, okay, FINE, I will either a) watch Master and Commander again, or b) read Desolation Island, the next of the Aubrey/Maturin novels on my To Read shelves. (However, this does not mean you should stop lobbing me dreams about Jack Aubrey, especially ones that involve him playing the violin. However, a little bit more exposition as to why exactly I am present in these dreams in the guise of my Two Moons character Wayfound might be in order, as I am fairly certain that the British Empire never colonized Abode.)

+2: This week I have become introduced to the huge pile of functional tests to be run on the Windows Media Player. This is kind of new territory for me, as on my last contract I'd only run these tests once or twice, and most of the functional testing I'd done had actually been on the Windows Media Server. As a result I'm getting rather more acquainted with what exactly the player does.

+3: YAY SHORT WEEK! Friends are due to come over tomorrow for Thanksgiving, and although we are not formally having the Annual Murkworks Homeless Waifs Thanksgiving Day Turkeyfest, still it will be nice to have folks over. I'm looking forward to that, and to having a nice long weekend to continue editing. And hopefully even to put a dent in my email backlog.

mmmmmmAubrey dreams..*envies*. When I dream of Russ (I didn't in weeks, *pouts*) he's always like Terry, looks like, acts like him..not that I think it's horrible to dream of him as Terry but I ohsolovehim as Jack :D
I think you should do both a) and b).
I really should start reading Master and Commander, what do you think?

Generally, when Mr. Crowe makes cameos in my dreams, it's in the most incredibly prosaic of contexts, which frustrates me to no end. For example, WHAT IS UP with me dreaming about giving him a box of Christmas ornaments? ;) Dreams of Captain Jack are a definite improvement, though.

And you should definitely read Master and Commander. I read it before the movie came out, just to get acquainted with the original story, and fell in love with the characters of Jack and Stephen on the strength of the prose alone. A lot of Patrick O'Brian's writing is "blah blah blah nautical jargon blah de blah two dozen kinds of sails blah blah Napoleon is a wanker", but every single scene with Jack and Stephen is gold, and his battle scenes are quite gripping as well. :D

I knew I was going to be in love with Jack, though, from the very first scene--where he meets Stephen at a concert given by a quartet of musicians, and the narrative describes how Jack is just so physically engaged by the music, leaning forward to listen, waving his hand around happily in time, and getting so into it that his neighbor (i.e., Stephen) has to shush him to get him to sit still. ;D I DO THAT listening to music, so my sympathies for Jack were immediately engaged!

Also, Patrick O'Brian's writing style reminds me a lot of Jane Austen, which is a good thing for me, as I am also an Austen fan. :)

Hey, Anna, you need any more test contractors over there? Mine's up next month, but my year doesn't finish until March...

My lead has repeatedly mentioned that our department is understaffed; however, I am not particularly certain what this means in terms of what portions of the Windows Media Group will be looking to take on contractors. We just took on a new one on my specific team, so I kind of doubt that we'll be looking to take on another one in the immediate future.

You might have your Volt rep ask about positions in the Windows Media Group, though.

Of course they did, imperialistic bastards... Why wouldn't they colonize and enslave innocent elves?

Weee... I kinda like my short week too... had sunday and monday off as my regular off days, Worked Yesterday and today, have tomorrow off for turkey day, and then work friday and sat... kinda sweet...

Um, even aside from the fact that the British Empire was real and the world of Abode is not, and even leaving aside that Jack Aubrey and his gallant crew of the good ship Surprise are just as fictional as the Wolfriders and other elves in Elfquest, we're talking about TWO DIFFERENT PLANETS HERE. And imperialistic though the Brits might have been, they did NOT develop space travel or the means to magically hop dimensions during the time frame of the Aubrey/Maturin novels. ;) Moreover, colonization ain't quite the same thing as enslavement. Moving in and taking over a country doesn't necessarily mean you intend to enslave its people. It's a small difference, but it is, nevertheless, a difference. :)

And even aside from all of that, I-as-Wayfound was not in the dream as a slave, anyway. I distinctly remember functioning as part of the crew.

hrmmm... but it is after all, a dream... I wish my dreams were as vivid so i remember them... well at least the good ones... there are those where I wake up crying that I could just do without...

It's the writer in me, what can I say--I want a little consistency or at least some explanation when my subconscious throws two wildly disparate sources of fiction into the same dream. ;) I'm all about dreaming about Captain Jack, but when it's combined not only with Elfquest but specifically the Two Moons flavor of it? Makes me go 'er, what?' :)

You might consider trying to write down your dreams if you'd like to remember them better. Even if it's just a tiny fragment of a dream, record it as soon as possible after you wake up.

And I have plenty of far more prosaic dreams, I generally just don't bother to post about them. ;)
