If you happen to be working on some creative writing project, fanfiction or NaNoWriMo or what have you, post exactly one sentence from each of your current work(s) in progress in your journal. It should probably be your favourite or most intriguing sentence so far, but what you choose is entirely your discretion. Mention the title (and genre) if you like, but don't mention anything else. This is merely to whet the general appetite for your forthcoming work(s).

Faerie Blood, urban fantasy.

"But as he looked down at me with despairing eyes, all I could think was that his arms felt like home, and I was about to lose them."

Lament of the Dove, epic/high fantasy.

"Panic kept the girl kneeling upon the floor while the inexorable need, the need she had yet to understand even after experiencing it half a dozen times in the past four years, urged her upward to put her hands upon that pain and let the fire in her fingers surge forth to obliterate it."

A Paris Tradition, Harry Potter fanfic (because I had an idea, and I'm not doing NaNo properly anyway :p)

"Appropriately chastised, the elephant in question snuck another bite of hay from the bale above her head and ambled off, munching happily."

Nothing beats the sentence with the elephant cameo :p Plus I got to use the word 'snuck' and 'ambled' in the same sentence! Hee!

The other line I like (is two sentences because they don't make much sense and aren't funny apart) is:

"If the owl had had eyebrows, it would have raised one skeptically as it contemplated the matter at hand. Coming to a decision, it shot out a talon and skewered the mouse, which shut up in short order."

Just one sentence? Well, damn. Now I know what I'll be doing for the rest of the day -- coming through my work trying to find one good sentence. ;)

I usually write short sentences. I have some good -paragraphs-, though!

Oh, good! I'm not the only one with this problem. I posted my "one sentence" for each of my NaNovels - but, geeze!!!

Talk about pressure....

What if what I'm working on is poetry? Do I still get to post one line?

Well, here goes what I've written latest (actually just finishing it today):

Autumn
As the leaves turn color and fall to the ground,
Urges to fly south with the birds are repelled.
Time slows down to take on new meaning;
Under a gray cast sky,
Memories cascade like a river after a good rain.
Nature mystifies common experiences, making them seem new and different.

I'm way behind, but...

“Wait, how do you know about the willow tree?” He just turned around and grinned even wider, “The Faerie Queen told me!” Luckily he was too far away to be hit by the stone that Ivoire threw at him.

From the untitled story I'm working on. It's not really one sentence, but I felt it was close enough :)
