Some crumbs of consolation
Nov. 3rd, 2004 11:01 am+0: Seattle gave a big fat NO to the monorail recall.
+1: Patty Murray is back in the Senate.
+2: Great Big Sea's latest newsletter just showed up in my mailbox. And they have this to say about the forthcoming album: "It is no secret that we have been working steadily on a new record, every note of which has been drawn from the Newfoundland tradition. We actually started it almost as soon as we finished Something Beautiful, and we have been recording sporadically ever since. In our minds, the as yet unnamed album is the folk 'ying' to Beautiful's pop 'yang'. This does not mean it will be a soft and fuzzy bunch of ballads. The 'trad record', as we are calling it, will contain still GBS's trademark energy, bizarre harmonies, odd guests and obscure Newfoundland in-jokes, all performed without the benefit of electricity."
*smiles sadly* The Doyle keeps telling audiences at GBS shows that we should come visit them in Newfoundland, because "Séan has a futon." That futon's looking pretty good right now.

Date: 2004-11-03 10:39 pm (UTC)yes, consider that an invite if you don't mind a lousy futon (tho the twin bed in the spare room is quite comfy, i don't think it sleeps 2 in any reasonable manner)

Date: 2004-11-04 05:56 am (UTC)that would the be road trip from heck, but you'd be the groupie AND earning your keep on the booktour, AND likely doing 1/2 dozen tasks for the boys, and heaven's knows what all, PLUS being blissed out on gbs!
dang!
talk about the coveted road trip! you'd be exhausted, rarely know what city, state/province, or country you were in, but i'm thinking the blogging would be awesome & so would the view :) (assuming you are backstage any, the lads have nice bums!)

1/16 seeing assorted interesting places all over Canada
1/16 trying to figure out how to do the double conversion from U.S. dollars per gallon over to Canadian dollars per litre by the time I make it all the way across the country
1/16 seeing how many books I can get sold to fellow OKP denizens
1/16 buying all the albums of Canadian bands I like that I can't find down here in the States
3/16 ogling Séan
5/16 ogling Alan
Yeah, that's about right. ;)

Date: 2004-11-05 04:18 am (UTC)oh, you forgot eating all the wonderous local canadian cuisine that you can't get made properly in the US! :)
btw:
3.78 litres to a US gallon
1.60 kilometres to a mile
and today it was approx 83 us cents to a canadian dollar :)
we measure gas economy in litres/100km (on cars)...
the conversion is a simple mathematical exercise taking less than 2 minutes on a calculator :)

Date: 2004-11-07 06:08 am (UTC)And because I am just that much of a geek, I would clearly have to acquire some sort of little script to do that conversion for me on my handheld. Or an Excel thingie. Or something. Because hell, I'm carrying around a teeny computer! This is what they're supposed to do for you, after all. ;)
