Whoa, that was fast!

Things must be slow at Tor this fall. solarbird just told me that I got back my SASP for my manuscript sent off to Tor on the 30th; for those of you who were keeping tabs earlier this year, this is a much faster turnaround time on that than I had for the first one! The SASP with the first submission for Faerie Blood took a little over a month to get back to me; this time, it's taken roughly two weeks.

Consulting my LJ posts from this past summer, I see that I had about a month and a week between the SASP getting back to me and the actual rejection letter showing up. Let's see what the turnaround time is like this time!

Yeah, but I bet you money you're actually dealing with a higher level on the food chain than I am--whereas I'm more likely dealing with the folks doing the initial filter on the slush pile. :)

But yeah! How long has it been now? Somebody should damn well get back to you!

And oh by the way, I said it before, but I'll say it again: CONGRATS ON THE COVER. :D

Yeah, I am, because they've got the whole manuscript. Last I heard it was with an editor who was doing freelance work for Tor, having left them as a full-time employee. Of course, that's the guy who was supposed to read it in the first place, and it's been thirteen months. :P

Wow, that -is- fast! I've heard slushpile turnaround time to be more like 6 months for most companies.

Thanks hon! I'm simultaneously hopeful and deeply, deeply nervous, wondering if I'll get the same editorial assistant or intern who read me earlier in the year--whoever it was who scribbled the 'overly wordy' feedback on the rejection note I got back. ;) And wondering if that person will in fact find my wordage suitably less wordy.

Hrmm. Checking my word count numbers for the various drafts of this thing, I see Chapter 1 and Chapter 3 did in fact take substantial reductions in wordage, but Chapter 2 went up a little.

HI YES I'M ANAL ENOUGH TO FRET OVER WORD COUNTS! ;)

And apparently I am too tired after walking home for an hour and forty minutes to actually calculate word counts right. Doing it CORRECTLY, I find that my word count for these chapters actually went up. Mip! Let's just hope the words I added in are actually deemed valuable. :P :)

Well, compared to "moving to a brand new house", "having surgery", "having my household Internet site getting hacked into", and "going to a writer's conference", settling down to a regular day job again and spending my spare time writing novels IS settling down!

I do not envy you your commute into D.C., though!

Heh. I have to admit that my stressors do not necessarily have the same impact on me as yours did. As I once mentioned to someone regarding debt and income: the managability of one's debt is proportional to the income that one has. Therefore all debt is (generally) an equal PITA. :) Something similar could be said regarding stress, don't you think? *grin*

Heh. I dunno--I think that just as important to the manageability of one's debt as amount of income is one's own ability to not be an idiot at HANDLING that income. You can have all the money in the world, but it's not going to do much good if you aren't responsible in how you spend it.

As for stress, while I do think that one's ability to manage stress makes a huge difference in that stress actually being manageable--it also kinda depends on what's being winged at the person in question. I've gone through some pretty wacky stress levels the last couple of years, with a whole BUNCH of things hitting me at the same time. ;P And while I'm generally pretty good at handling stress, even I have my limits!

Which is probably a more serious answer than you were shooting for, but well hey. :)

I do recall the household site-hack. That was most obnoxious from my outsider's PoV. You folks did /not/ deserve such abuse. I'm sure that the perps will get what's coming to 'em, one way or another (only because I do not fully recall the conclusion of that horrendous situation).

Well, the conclusion was 'we never did find out who did it', but we do have the site back up and running to more or less previous (and in some ways better) levels. We're still grateful that the brats didn't actually know to use the toolkit with which they cracked us any better than they did--if they had, we might well have lost a lot more user data than we did. As it was, we only lost index files out of everybody's web pages, and those were more or less able to be either rebuilt or pulled out of backup.

PS Congrats! We (and by 'we' I mean both myself as the somewhat delusional royal leader of the WW empire...bwahhahhaha...and also as the unit of myself and Jorgen) are rooting for you all the way, sistah-friend!

I did indeed. I targeted it for Patrick Nielsen Hayden, as he's the SF/fantasy guy, and Faerie Blood is an urban fantasy. :) (I did toy with the idea of sending it to Anna Genoese, but I don't think it's got enough romance in it to qualify as a paranormal romance. There is a romantic subplot, but it's not the main thrust of the story at all.)
