-0: Up till 3am last night trying to beat the web server on lodestone into shape. We have lodestone online again--but my attempt to compile the latest Apache into a local Debian package kept running into failure, as it kept bitching that it needed a bunch of other things, and I couldn't give it these other things, because when I tried to compile THEM they went into a dependency loop. I couldn't compile the latest version of package A because IT wanted the latest version of package B, and B wouldn't let me compile IT because it wanted C, and C wouldn't let me compile IT because it wanted the latest version of package A! GAH!
So finally I gave up and punted back to the most recent stable version of the Apache package off of Debian.org. It's Apache 1.3.26; Apache 1.3.31 is actually the latest rev according to Apache's site. But Debian's version SHOULD have all recent security fixes. It had damn well better, because if Apache is how we got hacked before, and I can't get us updated because I can't compile 1.3.31, I will be severely pissed off.
-1: Attention to my cat: DO NOT WAKE ME UP YOWLING AT 6:30AM WHEN I WENT TO BED AT THREE AFTER WORKING ON A WEB SERVER AND WEB PAGES ALL NIGHT.
-2: Got up this morning to find my Outlook program bitching that it couldn't log into newmoon. Uh oh. Logged into newmoon. Checked the syslog. Found the last thing in said log was a HARD DRIVE ERROR. This does not look good, so I go to fetch
solarbird, who says "not good". And keeps saying "not good" as she runs fcsk all over newmoon's hard drive and finds a bunch of damage.
So basically it looks like newmoon went, "Oh goody, they got lodestone online! Now my hard drive can explode!" GAAAAAAH! >_<

Date: 2004-08-28 10:21 am (UTC)The extra special annoyance with the cat waking me up at early-thirty the last couple of days has been that I haven't been able to figure out what she WANTS. Food or water or her litter changed or what. I stagger downstairs to check, and once I'm finally up she's all "oh, you're up now, how nice", and sprawled in the middle of the living room floor. ;P

Date: 2004-09-02 10:58 am (UTC)Though I'm beginning to think that it is indeed a matter of the different light levels in the morning in the new house. The last day or two before we left for Boston, the weather in Seattle had changed to be more gray and overcast, and no yowling out of Polly. Hmm!

Date: 2004-08-28 02:58 pm (UTC)One helpful thing you can do for me is let me know the following:
1) Do you want to keep sunandmoonmurals.com pointed to Vicka's box or would you like to move that back to us? I'm good either way, just need to know if I should touch bases with Vicka about doing the shift of your files back to lodestone and of your domain name service.
2) You still have pecktavern.com, yes? I remember setting that up for you but I can't recollect whether we had pointed that at the 'peck' account or at a subdirectory on your 'mimi' account. Right now we don't have a 'peck' account recreated on lodestone.
(But we can pull the files out of backup if we need them and recreate the account.)
I can either make you a separate account for the pecktavern files, or else just tell the DNS for pecktavern.com to point at your mimi space. It's equally easy to do either, just need to know whether it is easier for you to have two accounts or one!
