The GBS mailing list informs its readers that the B'ys will be touring Canada this fall to celebrate their current album--but it mentions further down that the band plans to take an extended break in 2005. Hrmm. Hrmm.

This news makes the idea of going to the October 1st show in Vancouver very, very tempting. I shall have to mull this, and quickly. Especially if I am going to have to suffer a Newfoundlander shortage next year! Even the eagerly anticipated all-trad next GBS album might not be enough to tide me over if I have to go without a concert.

I heard one of their songs on the radio the other day and it was really pretty, different from what I expected!

it was probably 'shines right through me'. I don't think it was a super alternative station though it could have been out of bellingham (I was driving from canada to the us but was definitely on the us side and I'm pretty sure it was dark out, so I was pretty close to home by then, but I don't think it was KEXP, which could have been playing anything).

I thought the title only had three words in it but since I just heard it and didn't see it written, I know my retention is actually pretty low for what it was ('shines right through' only has three words and I could have just dropped one in my head).

it was nice!

I know! I saw that the Winnipeg show is on a Saturday night, and that definitely means road trip for me. ;) Hell, if I have the time and money, I might head for Thunder Bay, too. Depends on how crazy I feel. :)

Hee ... I have a far more liberal definition of 'road trip', it seems. ;) I spent way too many years driving between St. Louis and Kansas City, so anything less than four hours is now "oh, wait, we're there ALREADY?"

Winnipeg is about 7 hours; Thunder Bay, 5, I think. I drive 7 hours to either Kansas City or Chicago a couple of times a year, so I consider that a perfectly legitimate driving distance. But, then again, I'm one of those weird folks who loves to drive long distances. (Maybe I should take up trucking? Bound to be more interesting than being a secretary.) ;)

we have two spare bedrooms with queensize beds in them, and another room that camping mattresses can be put in. lots of room for Seattleites coming northward for GBS goodness. :)

1 October is a Friday night. so if you were working you might have to duck out an hour early, but you wouldn't have to zoom right back.
