I'm out of the hospital now and at Murkworks South, the old house... [livejournal.com profile] solarbird and [livejournal.com profile] spazzkat came to get me from the hospital and are about to take me to Murkworks North to recover as most of our furniture is there now, and the animals as well.

I may or may not have net access over the next couple of days, due to our having to wait for the new DSL modem to arrive. I will try to call my backup account on drizzle.com and get mail that way, though, so y'all feel free to email me anyway even if I don't answer it fast.

I will post a more detailed update as I get back to my own computer. [livejournal.com profile] gerimaple and other GBS/OKP folks, please feel free to relay up to the OKP that I'm okay, just kinda groggy, and greatly appreciate get-well-vibes. :)

More later...

So glad you're out of the hospital, and ready to recover in your new place. Is there anything you need or want to help you relax and get better?

Gather from Solarbirds earlier post that things went well, whew. Take care and get well -- lack of net access might be just the right thing to get some decent rest, too :)

(MacGyver should be fun while on Percocet!)

*ROTFL*
that should be interesting, to say the very least... then again, i'm one of those folks who can't HAVE percocets anymore, b/c i like them TOO much!

glad you are doing well after the surgery... rest up & let the animals & SO love up on ya! :)

allowing one's-self to be relatively painfree as one goes to sleep is CRITICAL in the healing process... i HIGHLY recommend this!

oh yeah, you were busted-wing lass at the GBS concert weren't you?
and yeah, Stoic works GREAT if you don't have access to proper pain medication - BUT WHEN YOU DO, *stoic* = *stupid* IMHO!
it's one thing to have mild discomfort, where it reminds you that it's injured/sore/whatever, but once it crosses the line to actively on your mind & making other things hard to think of/do b/c of it, then it's time for meds!
cuz you REALLY DO heal faster when your body isn't fighting itself b/c you are in pain!
and yes, there's a VERY fine balance between medicating the pain to a comfortable level and being zoomed out on meds.. that line is difficult to find as it CHANGES almost daily! oy!

this kathryn lass is a smart one... let your body's energy go to healing, rather than wasting it on pain :)

get some sleep there silly one! :)

in recovery mode, your body can utilize a lot more sleep than usual, and WILL heal faster as a result! :)

a nice warm bath w/ bubbles (if you can have one w/o getting the sutures wet) would help too! :)

washing hair....
ok... kitchen counter, on your back, head at the sink...
put a plastic pasta or salad colander upsidedown in the sink to rest your head on so that you don't strain your neck
have SO wash hair & rinse...
that way can keep neck dry (can even medical tape a baggie over the suture area if needs be, JUST to be sure)...
and yes, to the question, i HAVE had to do this before! ;)

actually, as whacked as it sounds, w/ the plastic collander turned upside down it's not bad!
and compared w/ the greasy, grimy, grungy feel od NEEDS-to-be-washed-hair, it's rather a MINOR discomfort! and it's like 7 minutes! :) 11 if you want conditioner! :)

yeah, done it more than once as the person ON the counter, and when my friend krista had her face rearranged in a car accident and couldn't STAND or handle anything on her head while upright, this was IT for 3 weeks! it was my pleasure to take care of things for 10 days, and she's miss "wash it every other day if it kills me" :)

big tub eh? MUST BE NICE!

Anna,

I am glad you are feeling ok and that the move is going smoothly. I hope with all the craziness you get the TLC you deserve. Will you and Solarbird still be heading to Beantown end of the month??

Lots of get well hugs,

Glad your surgery went well..hospitals creep me out and I worked inside one for three years.-Dara wondered if hospitals are faraday cages-yes and no. Some areas are "zero potential rooms"-some are Faraday cages, literally, but for the most part,no. "zero potential" means everything is grounded, and even the carpet is conductive. Why? One reason is that conductive solutions used in IVs(like salt)offer a low-resistance path to your heart-a static charge you couldn't even feel could kill you thru an IV. Some sensitive equipment is in a Faraday cage..the cardiac wing,or at least part of it,is.
I used to work as maintenance/biomed engineering(the last being a big title for head battery changer,really)..something good to know-most medical electronics are extremely reliable..most repairs were where nurses broke things..Scott
