Look what I found...
Jul. 19th, 2004 05:50 pmMy very first rejection letter, circa January 25, 1988 (according to the postmark on the envelope), was from the folks at Del Rey/Ballantine Books. And it was a form letter. TYPED, as I believe this was from the days before computers were in wide use!
It read:
"After careful examination of your recent submission, we have decided, regretfully, that it does not suit our particular needs at this time.
We are also sorry that because of the large number of manuscripts we receive, it is impossible for us to write to you in detail about this decision.
We wish you success in placing this work with another publisher--and thank you for considering DEL REY/Ballantine Books.
Cordially,
The Editors
DEL REY/Ballantine Books"
