solarbird has just informed me that the sellers of the current house we're shooting for apparently just got an offer late last night in which the buyers waive all contingencies in the contract and offer more money than we are.

Bah. The one small glimmer of hope is that the agent says that Mr. Buyer apparently initialed the contract but Mrs. Buyer did not, and there is the scant possibility that Mrs. Buyer may not agree to said contract. I kind of doubt it, though. This is the kind of market we're in--where people are anxious enough to get houses right now that they're pretty much willing to abandon contract contingencies like this. (With this house it makes somewhat more sense than it did with the house in Brier, but still.) And it doesn't help that this house is already on the crazy high end of our financial range--we can't compete with higher offers, not for this one. :/

I wouldn't be terribly surprised if the people with whom we've had to fight for these various houses don't technically have the kind of money required to win these bid wars, but are willing to throw themselves into debt in order to get it.

To date, Dara and I have been operating under the scenario that if we pick up another house, it'll be with a minimal mortgage at most, and it'll be mostly financed by the sale of 5026.

But apparently this scenario isn't competitive enough, or something. :P
