So, interview happened this morning! And as per pretty much usual, it was one of those things where I have NO IDEA WHATSOEVER how it went. The guy I spoke with was perfectly amiable and seemed to readily accept me telling him, "Okay, I haven't used C/C++ in a professional capacity since 1995, 1996, and it was kind of on the border between pre-object-oriented-programming and object-oriented-programming, so I know some of this stuff but not all of it." He asked me what the static keyword meant for a member function. I told him that I knew what "static" meant in a C context, but not specifically related to a member function. I was at least able to tell him that I knew what a member function was as well. So I am hoping that ability to demonstrate that I understood what the hell he was talking about even if I didn't have the immediate answer to his question was a Good Thing.

He also asked me what I did on my current job, and described what he needed as well. It looks like they want somebody to come in and write an automation suite for testing their product, with some light C/C++ skills required. I can probably handle that. And they're doing testing on Linux desktops, specifically on RedHat boxes. I can probably also handle that. He seemed to like that when he asked me, "Have you dealt with having area ownership in a product cycle?", I was able to say "Yes!"

And he asked the inevitable "Do you have any questions for me?" question. And I did. I asked him about their setup of automated vs. manual testing, and whether they tested on Linux or what, given that their product's software is Linux-driven. And we talked a bit about the differences between RedHat and Debian flavors of Linux.

So all in all it was a generally decent conversation, and I think I came across as sounding clueful, but I JUST! DON'T! KNOW! We'll have to wait and see if I passed preliminary muster.
