Today is a Good Day

It is the anniversary of the day the lovely and talented Alan Doyle, lead singer of Great Big Sea, popped into the world. My world is a richer place for it, for because of this man, I have rediscovered my own music and taken up instruments that I would never have been motivated to play otherwise. I have had the extreme pleasure of a yearly Great Big Sea show for the past four years, and never once been disappointed--and it is because of his shining energy, enthusiasm, and joy, rolling out to uplift every single person in the audience. I have been comforted by his singing when I am down, and made more joyful when I'm up.

I have indeed done this on the way to work, plan to do it on the way home, and will be whipping out my guitar to play along with his vigorous strumming as well as singing along with his dulcet tones. :D

I may also have to watch me a GBS video or two off the DVD. Because mmmmmmmmmmm the Loveliness of the Alan in "Ordinary Day" mmmmmmmmm.... :D

A scant FIVE DAYS until the B'ys arrive in my fair city! :D If Alan is not visibly glowing from all the good karma that GBS fans are winging his way today, I will be disappointed! (But only a little. 'Cause I mean, well, ALAN WILL BE HERE, and SINGING, and that's inherently good! ;D )

*laughs!* I am pondering, with no small amount of hopeful consternation, the fact that the Seattle show seems to be the last one on this spring tour, which leaves open the possibility that some subset of the band may in fact raid a local pub after the show. ;) They have in fact done so before. (Which was pretty damned weird, I might add--it was the first time I'd ever really set foot in an Irish pub for more than a minute or three, and just the sheer SEEING MEMBERS OF GREAT BIG SEA just hanging around drinking and talking was very disorienting. ;) )

But you may rest assured that I will get in extra squeals of glee for you, when Mr. Doyle hollers "VERTICAL MOVEMENT! VERTICAL MOVEMENT!"

i'm certain taht a goodly portion of it is. but the rest, m'dear, is honest-to-goodness sweat, coming from an honest-to-goodness-and-OH-MY gorgeous Alan working away oh-so-hard at making sure his fans have a WONDERFULFANTABULOUS time :)
