Gosh, I'm tired
Mar. 28th, 2004 05:47 pmSo last night, my little brain just sort of went 'AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA no', as a general reaction to a whole BUNCH of stress and too many demands upon my time at once. Some of that stress is not for public consumption on this journal; some of it is, I think, a reaction to the rejection letter on Friday, which hit me along with some of the other stress that I won't get into. Then when this was coupled with five different social engagements which were scheduled for this weekend and the coming week, it was all just sort of too much. This is what I get for being a raving introvert to begin with, and when I get stressed out... well.
Friday night, an old friend by the name of Jeff came over. Those of you on my Friends list who aren't
sksouth or
mamishka will probably best remember Jeff as the former player of Splinterfire of Two Moons MUSH, which takes him way back into the early days of the game. He's only just recently returned from New Zealand, where he's been for the last few years studying trapeze artistry, which is pretty keen. We mostly hung out and had Chinese food, and he showed us the video of a couple of his acts.
Yesterday afternoon,
kathrynt was a positively splendid native shopping sherpa, guiding me and
solarbird through the trackless wilderness of the jungl--er, uh, malls downtown (jungle, mall, same diff). We emerged with our hunt for the rare and elusive wedding garb successful; Dara, in fact, got a couple of red silk dresses out of the seconds basement, though I had to go upstairs for my knit top and skirt. The top was on sale. The skirt wasn't, so it was awfully pricey for a skirt by the standards of a girl whose usual criteria for whether clothes are acceptable to wear is "is it clean and does it have any obvious holes in it?", but well hey. Kathryn says the top and skirt look fabulous on me, so I ain't complaining. We also had smoothies (and I had a shrimp wrap thingie) and a stop at the Godiva Chocolatier store in Westlake, which Dara proclaimed a "scary place"; the guy behind the counter drolly assured us that it wasn't nearly so scary once you got to know it, to which Dara retorted that if you have chocolate for blood, you don't have to worry about eating it anymore. ;)
I started losing steam fast though on the tail end of the shopping, though. And once we made it back to the Murk, the prospect of going more or less right back out again for dinner and a movie just made my little head kind of explode. So I had to lame on
spazzkat's dinner and movie plan. :| (For which I'm still feeling sheepish!) Dara and I wound up having just a nice quiet night, which was sorely, sorely needed.
This aftenoon, we went out to pick up our bikes from Recycled Cycles, where they've been sitting repaired since Tuesday. I also got a new helmet, to replace the one they'd cut off of me in the accident last June. Dara and I decided we wanted to ride around for a while, since we'd just gotten the bikes back and all--so what started out as a plan to maybe pop down to U Village and get some lunch turned into a plan to bike as far as Lake Forest Park, stop at the Great Harvest bakery, and get lunch there. For those of you who were paying attention last June, this was the biking route we were in fact following when I broke my arm. It felt sort of the Right Thing to Do, even though that was a whole LOT of biking, and boy, am I tired now.
We stopped frequently to rest and to also just walk the bikes when we'd been sitting on the seats of them too long, and we also stopped on the way back just to investigate a house right on the lake that was having an open house. It's way too expensive for us--but it was still kind of fun to wander around inside a waterfront house. It even had a good view of Mount Rainier.
So now I'm really tired, but in a good sort of way, and pleased that I actually got outside and had fresh air and sunshine for several hours. Now that I have a functional bike again, I look forward to more of that this summer.

But so does hearing from my sister. Thanks kiddo. :) And a big awwwwww at the icon. :)

Date: 2004-03-29 06:33 pm (UTC)I hear ya about the sunshine and fresh air. That seems to do the trick every time I go into a little funk/depressed mood.
I love hearing from you, too. Keeps me grounded in the here and now. Also, I'm able to know that there is a few people out there who care about me.

Date: 2004-03-28 09:19 pm (UTC)Yeah, tonight's been pretty good, and while I'm tired, it's tired in a sort of 'having exerted myself in fresh air and sunshine' kind of way!

Date: 2004-03-28 10:43 pm (UTC)I only remember two real incidents I've ever had on a bike. Once was here in Alameda the day I got a new bike for Christmas. Obviously, the brakes were brand new and when I was riding down the sidewalk I caught sight of a pile of doggie doo right in front of me at the last moment. I guess I didn't want to have to get it off my tires and the first thing I did was grab the brake handle.
Of course, I grabbed the wrong one, stopped the front brake, and kind of flipped the bike over with my momentum. I scraped a bit, but fortunately that was it. Missed the poo-poo, though.
The other time was in New Jersey, going down one of the hills leading up to our house. I was slowing down to stop at a five-way intersection that had a main street with the right-of-way, and there was some loose gravel on the street. The back tire skidded in the gravel and I felt myself losing the bike. Fortunately, I kind of slid off the seat with my hands still on the handlebars, and managed to take a few steps and stop without falling. Whew.
