HEE HEE! I'm still giggling periodically about the reviewer that drglam quoted, who commented that female fans of Mr. Crowe might be disappointed about the lack of shipboard romance opportunities in Master and Commander. Clearly, this person is unacquainted with the power of slash. ;D

i'd say it's more than unacquainted, i'd said mr. cluebus passed by at SUCH a speed, there was NO hope of catching a ride!
everyone i know who SAW it (that is slash-friendly in the least) say it was a slashers wet DREAM!
wouldn't know, i'm not exactly the most RC-fen out there, but hey... it DID have OB!
also, in my experience (limited tho it is) most of the m/m readers & writers are either female or gay men, soooooooooooooooooooooooo... said person was so far from a clue, they needed longer to get to it than VOY was anticipating to get back to the AQ from the DQ!

I AM a raving RC fan, and I know several raving RC fans who are all over slash opportunities for his movies; yep, they were all over Aubrey and Maturin even BEFORE the movie came out. ;) I am less familiar with Patrick O'Brian fandom proper, as I only discovered the books via my affection for Mr. Crowe, but it would not surprise me in the slightest to discover an A&M slash contingent has been around for some time. They very much have a Kirk/Spock dynamic to them.

And heh! I saw Richard Dean Anderson in your interests lists; I have a soft spot in my heart for him myself, though that dates back to me watching MacGyver as a teenager. I've never gotten around to watching SG-1, though I've got some episodes on tape that a friend gave me. I don't know if they are watchable anymore, since I have had the tape for years now, though.

gerimaple can give you my non-lj email addy, and i can dish where you can download the episodes from a non-Kazaa source :)
and i'd say, WATCH the movie first, THEN start w/ episode 1 from season 1, otherwise the rest of the series is all a jumble... the first epi - children of the gods - sets up the rest of everything, and introduces you to the characters in a way that makes you care!

and btw - RDA has only gotten ENTIRELY more delectable!!!!!!!!!!!!! i remember macgyver :) one of my older sisters was ADDICTED to the show when it was on, so my attraction/droolage goes WAY back since before i should have even had an inkling why he was droolworthy! :)

Thanks, but I'll skip downloading the episodes. :) If I get enough spare time that I can actually watch the ones I've got, and find that I like it well enough to continue, I'll investigate what to do about acquiring the rest of it then.

I barely manage to follow the shows I'm paying active attention to right now, though, so I'm dubious about that free time thing. ;) This is what I get for being a crazy writing thing that writes a lot!

And heh. The first time I glanced at SG-1, as I recall, my brain went "Why is MacGyver on a science fiction show, and what happened to his HAIR?!" I've seen ads for the show, though, and RDA making jokes; he seems to have preserved much of the same sense of humor that he had as MacGyver. ;)
