Other random things about today
Jan. 4th, 2004 10:59 pm0. Holy crap, it's cold! And word has it that there's a high chance of a heavy snowstorm in the next couple of days--the biggest we've had since the 1996 one where we had seventeen inches of snow in the side yard, and after which people were cross-country skiing through Ravenna Park and sledding down the Hill of Death which is what 54th Street turns into in a serious enough cold snap. ;)
And yeah yeah yeah, I know this doesn't mean much to the East Coasters who tend to see this kind of thing a lot more often than us Seattlites, but hey, I'm easily charmed by snow. I know that if I were a wise and sage and grownup Anna I would not be excited about the prospect of a snowstorm--I do, after all, have to actually WORK, and since a pile of snow would bring Seattle to its knees and probably keep me from getting to work, I'd not get PAID--but when it comes to large amounts of snow I'm still very much part kid. I think I didn't get enough snow days as a child, or something.
1. Went to the Ave with
mamishka today, and ran various errands, and had a pleasant lunch. Mimi didn't think to wear a coat though, and has also lost her favorite winter hat, so it was a cold walk for her! So I bought her hot chocolate.
2. I had another workout today, and this time added in a few more elements to take me back towards the pre-arm-break workouts. I did it upstairs where the rest of the weights as well as the treadmill are stored, which meant that I was able to do warmup and cooldown on the treadmill and have easy access to the bigger weights without having to lug them down to the living room and back upstairs again. Also, I used the 15-pounders on several of the exercises, and did shoulder presses with the 8-pounders--very satisfying indeed.
3. Late last night I did something I haven't done in some time and actually finished off Chapter 5 of one of my fanfic projects which has been sitting idle for a while now--I'd gotten in my quota of work on the Actual Novel, but felt like writing still, so I went and played with Iterations for a bit. Whee!
4. More writing today on the Actual Novel, and a finished chapter there too. Yay!
5. Russell Crowe on Inside the Actor's Studio awaits me on the Tivo. :D

Date: 2004-01-04 11:40 pm (UTC)I located a really toasty and nice winter hat I'd forgotten I'd made for myself in the pocket of my coat. Mmm, very soft fuzzy warm wool and silk and camel, I think.

Date: 2004-01-05 09:15 am (UTC)Also, I LOVE THE SNOW TOO! But I do feel your pain about going stir crazy in the freeeezing weather with a toddler.

Date: 2004-01-05 04:36 pm (UTC)I love the snow, too! And Philip refuses to let us put on a coat. So we can't really take him out for a romp in it if there's no school.
I was thinking about what you said about Violet's bad preschool experience, and Philip's good preschool experience. In his school (and in similar ones, like the one UW runs), they have a percentage of "typically developing" kids together with the kids with delays. Some places the typical kids get to attend for free, even. I bet Violet would be great in a situation like that.

Date: 2004-01-05 06:09 pm (UTC)This is actually starting to feel like winter to me at least, but then again I also have to acknowledge that my standards of 'winter' honestly aren't all that high either. I've got memories of two feet of snow on the ground and -50 degree windchill in Louisville, KY, but those were also from a really unusual span of winter seasons when I was a kid!
