Slipping on the black ice on the corner just outside your place of employment is not the best of ways to start the morning. And the bitch of it is, I even realized there was slush on the road a few steps before I actually went down--but I wasn't really paying as much attention to it as I should. It was more like, "bounce in my step while Great Big Sea belts out 'Lukey' in my earphones, one foot skids a little, I think 'Oh gosh, there's slush!', another step or two, the other foot skids a little, I think, 'Slush!', another step, SURPRISE THERE'S ICE TOO!, *WHAM*'.

Ow. Fortunately the traffic was practically nonexistent so it wasn't as if I was in anybody's way, so I had plenty of time to get up and stagger into building 50. I landed on my left hip, which is where most of the ow is, though now my bad arm feels a little cranky too. Bleah.

Ow, that sucks. In the midwest, people had to get their "ice legs" every winter, like sailors get their "sea legs." And it would always take me a couple months to learn to walk normal after the thaw.

Yeah, I know what you mean about ice legs; I haven't been in that kind of weather much since I moved to Seattle, and really, we didn't get it all that regularly in Kentucky, but I have experienced it just enough to know what you mean! There is a certain skill to walking on ice and slush. I think I was on some level just stunned to find it there on the road. SURPRISE! It's DECEMBER!

Thanks... I'm feeling a little shaken, still, and trying to figure out what to do about it. I feel like I ought to be lying down and taking a nap, but it's not even 11am yet so I can't really just up and go home, I think. I want to at least get in a half day. Bah. Stupid ice!

Amen to that, sister! boudiccathered was theorizing to me that the reason I've felt icky and a little ill this afternoon might be because my brain went a little heavy on the adrenaline when I hit--possibly still on some level equating "falling down" with "broken arm". Dunno if that's actually what happened, but I have felt off kilter all day. Home now though and taking it easy with blankets and stuffed animals, thanks to solarbird. :)
