Assorted stuff
Dec. 19th, 2003 08:58 am+0. The mysterious mumak is identified! Except now he's
mikekn and I actually know who that is, so onto the Friends list he goes. Hi Mike!
+1. A package from
lyonesse has arrived for myself,
solarbird, and
mamishka, containing--or so it is rumored, for I have not seen the insides of said package--lovely things from Lush. Little orcs are so good to us. ^_^
+2. I have received a Christmas card from my little brother, which includes in it shiny new pictures of all four of his current crop of children! Nice piccies, too. Yay kids!
-3. I've been trying some lip goop to soothe my chapped lips lately, except that every time I put some of the stuff on it makes me a little queasy, just from the taste of it on my lips. This is vexing, because, well, my lips are chapped, so I need something to use, but apparently this stuff isn't it. Bah.
+4.
gazerwolf showed up last night on my MUSH and I helped him code a teddy bear. Heh. I'd half-forgotten some of my most basic MUSH coding, but it came back pretty quickly!
+5. The next couple work weeks should be pretty laid back. I'm going to be in only two days next week, and the week after that should be short as well thanks to New Year's Eve and New Year's. Whoot!
+6. Oh yes, I forgot! I'd been having this really annoying whine come out of my computer speakers every time I launched Trillian, which is my current IM client of choice just because I like having one client I can use to connect to multiple media, rather than having to use four different programs. Apparently, however, the Pro edition of Trillian tends to be a CPU hog. And on my box this means that it generates this subtle but fuck-all annoying whine. But, it seems that this CPU hoggishness goes away if I tell XP to run this program in Win98 compatibility mode. This makes NO SENSE to me, but at least the damned thing has stopped whining. It was driving me batshit.
+7. This quiz amuses me, because unless there's some sort of weird sonnet form with which I am unfamiliar that involves extra syllables stuck in on the last couple of lines, this sonnet is actually written wrong. ;) But it could be worse, and this is certainly one of the best-spelled quiz results I've ever had!
But I love sonnets. I am still extremely proud of the ones I wrote for Alan Doyle's hair and Russell Crowe's lovesick cow! So it pleases me to get sonnet as my result. ^_^

Date: 2003-12-19 09:28 am (UTC)Or, I should amend, it seems to actually do its intended job. It's just that when I taste it it makes me queasy. Bah.
So I'll pitch this stuff, probably, and try something else. Very possibly some chapstick. Thanks for the suggestion. :)
Another chapstick vote...
Date: 2003-12-19 12:08 pm (UTC)Which reminds me, must get some before heading off on holiday...

Date: 2003-12-19 09:54 am (UTC)The interesting thing is that this reaction is not entirely dissimilar to that bout of queasiness I had some weeks back when I think I might have accidentally ingested a miniscule amount of Tiger Balm from not having washed my hands well enough before eating some pizza. O.x I shall have to see if there are any common ingredients between these two items.

Re: Oh, and the Trillian problem....
Date: 2003-12-19 09:47 am (UTC)I went through the tech support forums up on ceruleanstudios.com last night, though. I'd remembered posting about this problem before and not getting an answer, but it's not just me; others have reported this problem too. And this time I found the tip about kicking the program into Win98 compatibility mode. You can do that just by right-clicking on the program's icon or shortcut, going to the Compatibility tab, and checking the appropriate checkbox.
Let me know if this works for you! I'm interested. :)

Date: 2003-12-19 10:47 am (UTC)Fortunately now that I have a workaround I won't have to stop using Trillian Pro. :) I really do like the program, and since the Pro version does the little popups over the systray that tell me when people connect and disconnect, I prefer it a lot over the free version!

Date: 2003-12-20 12:34 pm (UTC)Actually I got one of my plans partway fulfilled...I wanted to make it so the Teddy couldn't be thrown into the fountain...I have at least managed to get him to climb back out afterwards.

Date: 2003-12-19 05:22 pm (UTC)I wonder if I'll be able to sneak in a third viewing of that flick some time during the next couple of weeks. Aragorn is calling my name, but Jack still commands my musical attention!
