A good chunk of this last week has been taken up, at least in regards to my arm, with staggering through days of crappy sleep. I have not really had any truly restful sleep since the break, and this past week in particular has seen this aggravated by a) the weather, b) running out of percocet so deeming it necessary to start getting used to sleeping without it, and c) the muscles of my right shoulder and upper arm being really, really cranky with me. The last couple of nights in particular (aside from last night) have been brutal, and I had to come downstairs to try to sleep on the couch as the living room is where we have the air conditioner.

Last night was decidedly improved by [livejournal.com profile] solarbird being home, though, and being finally able to sleep beside her again even if we are both hardly up for anything more than simply lying next to one another and we had to sleep on the air mattress in the living room because neither of us could cope with the temperature in the bedroom. There is a whole lot of healing power in this whole "next to lifemate" concept.

The really hope-inducing thing, and the thing (well, aside from Dara being home and the desperate desire to get this stupid fucking brace off) that has kept me going this week, has been that interesting things are continuing to happen in my hand and arm. The initial sort of skin-level lighter tingles have given way to deeper, longer sparks and pulses... and in the last two days there has also been heat.

[livejournal.com profile] kathrynt has continued to remark upon the speed at which my arm seems to be getting its act back together. In fact, she called me up on Saturday to specifically tell me about how her mother-in-law had been in a situation similar to me but worse -- she had broken her humerus as well, and her lower arm had been numb and paralyzed for three months. And here I am, six weeks in, sensation coming back and maybe even a little motion.

This is going a long way to shutting up that corner of my brain that keeps going "aaaaah I'll never play my guitar again!"

What'll help a lot more though is if I show up for my appointment at the B&J center tomorrow and I am, in fact, given leave to lose the brace!

[Edited in 8/1/03 9:16pm] Last night, with my hand draped loosely over the plushy cranium of Jed the Frog, I got a noticeable spate of sensation and heat. The most interesting thing about that was that it seemed to improve the mobility of my forefinger... and in fact, as I tested the finger I got more pulses of heat just below it. That was fun and very encouraging, and at my appointment today I was told that this is a good sign indeed. They still want to do the nerve testing just to get its status officially documented, but Dr. Woodhouse felt that this was important information for them to know, and a good sign indeed pointing to the nerve just being stretched or bruised vs. being cut. So yay!

I am so glad to hear that your arm is speedily healing itself! I think your intense desire to play guitar again may help...you're thinking your arm better. :)
