Status report
Jun. 25th, 2003 12:44 pmThe last few days have consisted in a large part of sleeping a lot, trying to focus heavily on persuading my arm to heal, having meals, and taking painkillers. There has been a considerable amount of TV... been watching a lot of the MST3K and Muppet Shows that
mamishka brought me.
And there's been a lot of stress. I have cried more than once over not being able to play my instruments, over feeling helpless, and over this stupid broken arm being pretty much the kicker of a year that has pretty much completely blown from January 1, and it's only about half over. I won't be able to collect unemployment for last week because although I DID look for work, I didn't make the minimum number of job contacts. And it apparently makes NO FUCKING DIFFERENCE that I spent most of Thursday in the hospital, and all of Friday brainless on Percocet.
The other annoying thing is that thanks to this little incident our finances are rather shaky. So #1,
solarbird and I will probably not be able to go to Worldcon this year. #2, it is highly unlikely that I will be able to go to Thailand with her, because we simply cannot afford to have two weeks in which I am not here actively looking for work.
Good things, though: not much pain. I haven't needed much Percocet at all, the last couple of days.
kathrynt has been goddesslike maneuvering through reams of bureaucracy to find out if there's any help from the state to be had in my situation. The answer to this question is no, but I am nevertheless quite moved that Q took the time to look it all up. Hell, she even called a commissioner IN OLYMPIA to get information. Said commissioner wasn't really helpful, but she TRIED to be, and even asked Q concerned questions about my state in general.
I am getting some motion back in my fingers, though my thumb still isn't quite working. BUT, I also held a pick last night. I could not hit a note on my mandolin because the angle was all wrong, but hey!
And Dar washed my hair and much of the rest of me as well this morning. Dar is a goddess. I told her that if she weren't already married to me, she should marry me.

Date: 2003-06-25 02:02 pm (UTC)There's a package (well, an envelope) coming your way! Hopefully some of it will make you smile... some of it may make your cringe (but that's another story).
