Last night, [livejournal.com profile] solarbird and I visited our friends Joby and Abbie and their two children Isobel and Perrin, for a pleasant dinner and socializing with the two parents as well as their other friend Raymond Chen. An enjoyable evening was had, and I was quite charmed by the children even though they were rather loud. Four-year-old Isobel and two-year-old Perrin made a big point of showing me how they could hop like frogs, and how they could also be scary ghosts and scary tigers!

Perrin also frequently yipped "HIDE!" and ran and hid behind the door, or behind the stacks of folded boxes her parents had out in preparation to moving to a new house. She was very entertained by me going "Wheeeeeeeeere's Perry? THERE SHE IS!" Moreover, I was amused by the word "nummy" being in her vocabulary.

I enjoyed yakking about books with Abbie, with whom I have at least two favorite authors in common: Elizabeth George and Elizabeth Peters. She also perked up when I told her I was writing a book myself, and said she wanted to have a party when I actually finish the thing. Gulp. :)

In other news, it has apparently been Old Home Year on Two Moons the last several months. Several old players have been returning to the game in one guise or another, and/or have contacted me in email to give me data on their characters I have in my comprehensive database on the web page. I am very pleased by this, both because of being an information packrat and also because TM really needs the players. ;)

I still retain a membership in Segel Weyr despite the fact that I have written pretty much NOTHING about the goldrider they gave me. They're awfully patient with me, which I appreciate. I suppose that I should do something about this mail I got from the Weyrwoman that says my gold is about due for her first mating flight, though!

I finally finished Shipping News, and the overall verdict was sort of "enh". Annie Proulx's writing style continued to annoy me, and there's an overall rather iffy depiction of Newfoundlanders in general throughout the book. Coincidentally, a thread arose on greatbigsea.com by another person who'd been reading this book, who wanted to know what Newfoundlanders thought of it. People up there are posting that they were less than pleased about it, though some jokes have been made comparing it to the movie Deliverance in terms of likely lack of amusement from the locals in the area depicted.

Lastly, I have read that the locals in the area of Russell Crowe's Australian ranch are referring to the chapel he is renovating for his impending nuptials as "St. Russell's Basilica". [livejournal.com profile] llachglin should probably be glad he doesn't have to renovate a whole chapel for his impending nuptials with [livejournal.com profile] kathrynt. ;)
